Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Mario Kart 8 pushes Wii U to the limit?

Zelda U will probably show the beast in the box.

Please stop repeating this lie, even "supposedly" tagged. Mario Kart has always been 720p from the first screenshots we had maybe one year ago to the screenshots that are currently uploaded everywhere on Internet now.

Also the game has zero AA, very poor textures, low geometry and is just saved graphically by the usual Nintendo sharp colors & art direction. Technically it's very similar to Little big planet karting on PS3 and very far away from GT5, GT6 on PS3 and Forza 4 on X360, also at 60fps.

The game will probably be great, fun and have great reviews but won't be remembered for its graphics, like all previous Mario Kart.

Although I don't necessarily with your sentiment of FXAA but I do however agree that 1080p is far from a confirmed statement and I would like the OP to refrain from being assertive about it.

it is "supposedly" as many "reliable" sources say it to be and no official confirmation that it isn't.

I seriouly doubt it..

Since the GameCube, Nintendo's hardware philosophy has been to make hardware that is easy to tap into and get peak/maximum performance out of early on.

If you look at the 1st gen GCN games -- Star Wars: Rogue Squadron, Metroid Prime, Star Fox Adventures, etc. they stack up very well with the later gen titles.

If you look at the 1st year Wii titles, it's pretty much the same, not much looks better than Mario Galaxy or Metroid Prime 3.

Wii U hardware is developed around the same ideas, so it wouldn't shock me if Mario Kart 8 is pushing the system fairly hard ... that's the way Nintendo wants their system to be, to be able to harnass most of its power early on, not have to go through a learning curve for years and years with it.

I think Nintendo's designers disliked having to wrestle with the N64 hardware so much.

This "game" has "great" graphics/art style too...I didn't say that but "others" did. I'd say it is "colorful" and leave it at that. Keep makin threads like these guys! I know myself personally. I can never get enough Wii U information even though I have just a PC, Wii, PS3, and PS4, but I find you guys hype up the Wii U so much when I see actual shots it makes me wonder if we're on the same planet. This screenshot is a perfect example of a game with PRIMARY COLORS+NEON COLORS and a great controlling platformer. That I've sadly been playing since 1985. 30 years +added neon colors have kinda takin its toll on me, and we had 4 player back in the 80's it was similar to smoking a joint with your friends if you've ever tried that...and that has much cooler colors P:

EDIT: So no I don't think Mario Kart 8 will push the Wii U to the limits. Espeially since Bayonetta 2 looks far more advanced for the system it's on.

The supposidly better hardware doesnt seem to be doing that much better though.

you forgot this is an HD machine all new tech for the developers to learn

If that pushes the limits of the Wii U, then X is gonna make consoles blow up.

I'd like people show me these "low-poly" models and "low-res" textures, because I can't find them...

Take a look here.

The game is looker, don't get me wrong, but the texture on the road really isn't anything to write home about. You can also see that minimal anit-aliasing was done by looking at Toad's model.

The game does not graphically compare to the best of last gen, but I am absolutely certain Nintendo will be able to truly push the Wii U to the max with Zelda or Metroid.
