Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Mario Kart 8 pushes Wii U to the limit?

"[But] I think it still has a lot of potential left, and I suspect there are more ways to make use of its capabilities that we haven’t even imagined."

So, no. He said right there the Wii U has not been pushed to its limits.

Mario Kart 8  supposedly runs 60 fps at 1080p. Do you think Mario Kart 8 reaches the limits of The U?

Actually, it very much looks like the game will be native 720p, upscaled to 1080, @ 60 fps All signs point to this, as has been discussed many, many times before in lots of other MK8 and Wii U-related threads.

Nintendo Network ID: Cheebee   3DS Code: 2320 - 6113 - 9046

It has no photosynthetic graphics so I highly doubt it can be considered a "demanding" game. So the answer is... no!

"I've Underestimated the Horse Power from Mario Kart 8, I'll Never Doubt the WiiU's Engine Again"

I think that, looking at games like X in the pipeline, that we've got some way to go yet.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Yabuki shared these remarks while speaking with EDGE this month. His full comments can be found below, which came about when asked how he thinks the team pushed the Wii U hardware.

"Our aim was to create a game that used HD graphics and played at a smooth 60fps. We pushed Wii U’s capabilities to their limits to achieve this. [But] I think it still has a lot of potential left, and I suspect there are more ways to make use of its capabilities that we haven’t even imagined."

Please stop repeating this lie, even "supposedly" tagged. Mario Kart has always been 720p from the first screenshots we had maybe one year ago to the screenshots that are currently uploaded everywhere on Internet now.

Also the game has zero AA, very poor textures, low geometry and is just saved graphically by the usual Nintendo sharp colors & art direction. Technically it's very similar to Little big planet karting on PS3 and very far away from GT5, GT6 on PS3 and Forza 4 on X360, also at 60fps.

The game will probably be great, fun and have great reviews but won't be remembered for its graphics, like all previous Mario Kart.

It is hard to say when we do not know the budget of the project.

I am pretty sure that if they had a GTA level of the resources the whole game would be much more polished in every single aspect (not only graphics).

No. It uses some great lighting, but the textures and models are still relatively simple. The Wii U could do better than The Last of Us if pushed to its limits, and I believe we'll first see that from Zelda U.

                                                                                                               You're Gonna Carry That Weight.

Xbox One - PS4 - Wii U - PC

I'd like people show me these "low-poly" models and "low-res" textures, because I can't find them...

Although I don't necessarily with your sentiment of FXAA but I do however agree that 1080p is far from a confirmed statement and I would like the OP to refrain from being assertive about it.
