Forums - Sales Discussion - First nine quarters of sales for Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth Generation systems (U.S. sales only).

So the 5th quarter is the highest selling by these results. It makes sense I guess since most people probably hold off a year for more games to release.

Nice graph and great job as well.

It was their second holiday quarter.

Ah, now that makes much more sense

Kind of surprising to see how mediocre the 360 launch was, and how good the Xbox and Gamecube ones are. I did not expect the Gamecube to do better than the Wii Q1.

This is quite enlightening. It really shows that anything can happen. Wii was outdoing PS2 for the longest time, yet sold 50 million less in the end. Gamecube started out stronger than the Wii, as did the original Xbox, and well...that didn't turn out too well for them. PS4 and XBO were the biggest launches in history, but in their second quarter they plummeted below PS2 and Wii, with XBO getting dangerously close to 360, and this quarter it's already headed toward being beaten by 360. Each generation we expect history to repeat itself, and for the most part, it never does. The only thing on there that really has behaved like people expected in the early quarters is the Wii U, which is still struggling. Maybe it CAN recover? And who knows if PS4 will beat PS2 or not? It might shoot up in popularity again, it might plummet to PS3 levels, or it might go in between. I'd bet the latter personally. If there's anything to learn by comparing these early quarters to the final results, it's that the most likely outcome is that each console will take it's own path that doesn't resemble any other pattern in console history.

Could you add in Dreamcast? I think it would be neat to compare it to Wii U.

Wow, the PS2 was a beast!

nice job

Ps2 was simply a beast.

Holy crap to that second holiday PS2 jump. I mean, it was selling well until then. Then Xbox and GCN decide to launch and they get fantastic launch numbers but the PS2 just smashes them still. That's crazy.
