Forums - Gaming Discussion - We all know Microsoft screwed up.

What was Microsoft's bigger mistake?

The DRM fiasco 253 30.01%

Forced Kinect and $100 price difference 305 36.18%

It wouldn't have mattere... 152 18.03%

I like turtles 128 15.18%

Total:838

The interesting thing is, they didn't need to do any of the DRM nonsense as the evolution of video games to mostly digital has been clear for a while now.

Instead of evolution, they went for revolution and it bit them big time.

Or do people think the bigger problem was the forced Kinect causing the $100 price difference.

The main issue was the DRM.No gamer is ready to go fully digital. Gamers prefer a physical copy of a game.

Edit

Also the Xbox One is a good console. But imo it would be much better without kinect.

Right now the big black box is huge, and ugly, and doesn't fit nicely with other console spaces, like it doesn't want to share or something. It's $100 more than the smaller, more compact box that is more powerful. And it's forced Kinect on everyone when there is no substantial reason to use it, ever. After the novelty of swiping the air and talking to your box, do you really think $100 extra was justified?

For its specs, bulkiness, and if they excluded Kinect, this box should be $349, as it is less powerful than the PS4.

I'd say the price difference is more important now, as I feel like the average joe woulda have forgotten about the drm thing by now. No real proof of that of course, just basing that on how a forum goer like me doesn't think about the drm stuff at all anymore when looking at the Xbox One nowadays.

EDIT: And yeah the PS4 was gonna win regardless.

Price is the biggest issue. Most of the Xbox gamers I know are hardcore fans of games like Halo, but none of them wants to put down half a grand for a console, especially when they'll never use the Kinect. Most of them are waiting it out to see if they'll remove mandatory Kinect in the package.

DRM started it, but I think it's more about price & performance difference now.

My 8th gen collection

It's not over till the fat lady sings. All the choices isn't damaging since Microsoft got rid of the DRM. The extra 100 for kinect isn't that bad. Not doing 1080p is the bigger mistake.

Well... if they didn't go with their silly DRM things, I think it still wouldn't sell that much more than its doing right now considering the price of the console (vs the performance) dat is

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

The problem was at its core. NO FOCUS IN GAMING.

Also, the PS4 is a much more attractive competitor than the PS3 was in its first 3 years versus the X360.

The correct answer is the DRM fiasco. Its a fact. $100 more if that hadnt happened people would complain but got on with it. but that storm which brewed after the DRM saga was incredibly damaging
