I hope the next one caters to people like me, a 600 pound lion trapped in a mans body but with the sexuality of a dolphin and the spirit of a pony. Don't discriminate, Nintendo.

This is how you see gay people, who make up more than 12% of the world's population? Such a fine addition to humanity you are.

My post said nothing about gay people.

The topic is, Nintendo responce is, our disussion is.

Either you are trolling or are retracting your rediculing statement in comparing the right of gay people with those of non existing animals.

Nintendo made the mistake of talking about this issue. There are plenty of JRPG with dating sims elements that have heterosexual, but not homosexual relationships. The most notable example is Shin Megami Tensi: Persona 4, which allowed the player to form intimate relationships will all the female characters of a similar age simultaneously. If Nintendo just ignored this issue, no one would notice.

I predict that if there is a sequel to Tomodachi life Nintendo will remove the relationship apart before they allow homosexual relationships.

Japan is so behind compared to the rest of the world.

When it comes to sexuality, Japan is leaps and bounds ahead of rest of the world. They don't care what floats your boat, as long as you are respectful in public (both heterosexual and homosexual people are expected to show restraint in public). Other than that, they have a much more liberal view than we do, they were #94 in sexual crime rate even with their liberal view of sexuality in things such as entertainment and media, while the USA was #10 (in 2011, but the statistics are probably similar).

Nintendo's conservative stance dosen't reflect all of Japan.

Neither trolling nor retracting. Discrimination is more than against gays. Hope that helps.

I just thought that when i asked you how you thought group X would feel about a game, your answer was well, group Y also plays the game.

You want people to be empathetic to group Y, yet you wouldn't show empathy for other people in group X who may have reservations about the game.  Curl just called them bigots.  That's a real conversation ender.

Bigotry definition: bigoted attitudes; intolerance toward those who hold different opinions from oneself.  You would see that if you argue with a parent about wether or not to show gay content to their children it will be a fight of different opinions, and who is the bigot is not that clear.

From the games, I think Cloud cross dressing for a mission in FFVII are not really about sexual orientation.  Many of those are mature and mature audiences don't have issue with that in this modern day.  I wouldn't let my kid play them until they were older anyway.  The Sims is maybe the only thing children might play, and I have not heard controversy about sims.

Nintendo though has kept this squeaky clean reputation, and the big publisher that they are if there was a controversy it would spread.  So if you don't think that many moms & dads that Nintendo markets to would care then that's fine, but I think they could.  Will be interesting to see if they do change their game in the future.  Japanese culture is to not say "no", even thought they mean "no".

I stated that group y(gays) were a part of  (group x)the family and kid audiecne . They are.  It's sad that because people are gay they can't be associated with families.  It's sentiments like that that disgust me because it implies that gays aren't human or a part of regular human relationships.

I never called you those things.

Cloud may not have been gay but it's GLBTQ content in a popular game. No one complained it was offputting.

Nintendo may have a squeaky rep to you but it's not like such content hasn't appeared in any of their games. Their games aren't generally aimed at the Mature Modern Audience. You could also check out things they have done like Cpt. Rainbow more recently.

EA is a huge software publishing house.  They have even gone out of their way to try to be inclusive to transgender employees (publicly and within the company http://kotaku.com/5909038/a-transgender-transition-inside-ea-sports-will-everyone-stare-at-me) and they have had that type of content in some of their major games for over a decade.  EA has a reputation alright and it has nothing to do with that.

Your can feel that way.  People are always welcome to feel however they want about anything. I just don't see anything that backs up your feelings here.   I don't see any instance where it has either inhibited sales of a title nor caused an undesirable reputation for the company developing or publishing such games.

I believe it was the right choice. Many parents don't approve of gay marraige. Just like putting religionist stuff in games in kids game so should social issues. Many people arguing they have to do this are trying to force personally views onto others just say to opposing side.

Who is arguing that they have to?

Who is trying to force them?

Miiquality is just a request that he thought would be shared by many people and that appears to be a correct assumption.  It's possibly the most polite way I've seen anyone ask for anything in the games industry ever.

So Nintendo finally bended over? At least it's a better response than the cold first one.

Maybe Birdo will be featured in more games from now on.

Respecting others and acknowledging their existence/rights is not bending over.

But Animal Crossing doesn't acknowledge black people if you put it that way, so I don't know if this is a new issue...

Either way, Nintendo won't get out of this without offending at least someone. It looks like an eventual sequel will fix this though.

Yep.

This is probably the best thing that could happen to this game.

Since Nintendo can't market to save their lives, all the press publicity this "controversy" has generated for the game has probably brought it a lot of attention it wouldn't have had otherwise.

From what I read of the game it isn't a life simulator in the vein of The Sims. It seems to me as if you have a bunch of miis and they probabilistically form friendships and romantic relationships (with some controllable factors.) What happened if you were trying to have your mii date your boyfriend's mii, but it chose a girl or another guy instead? I seriously don't think the point of the game was to simulate your life, but to somewhat, in a jestful way, simulate life in general. I say this as somebody who is probably a 4 or 5 on the Kinsey scale. It does not bother me, although I wasn't interested in the game in the first place. Quite honestly though, it is Nintendo's right to put whatever they want into the game, and your right not to buy it (or buy it.)
