But it is an unnecessary barrier to casual players while only harming the elegant simplicity of the series. And don't get me started about how the karts handle like top-heavy dune buggies.

Casual players are not pants on head retarded. Does the Kart move forward and shoot red shells? That's the only thing that matters. I don't know why the 2nd character is such a "barrier" to you considering a casual gamer can completely ignore it for no real detriment to his experience. Why is "two people riding on a vehicle" so intimidating to anybody?

For me November 2018.

Has Nintendo released the Q&A session summary? I can't find it on their IR page.

Yep.

In tonight's Q&A session following the overall presentation Iwata was asked about the next console. Iwata's reply was that they cannot release a new console until they've satisfied the existing WiiU owners otherwise they'd be similar to SEGA.

Additionally, earlier today Nintendo discussed new hardware in terms of fiscal years and it was clear in that presentation that FY16 or more than likely FY17 was when we'd see something.

Next you have to consider the known games coming. MK8, SSB, Hyrule Warriors, X, Bayonetta2 and many others are this year. Zelda, yarnyoshi, and many others are known already for 2015. Then we have the tease of two major games at this E3... one that will prove soloplayer must-have gamepad use and one based around the new NFP figurines. As well as the mention today that many other games will be announced at E3.

Finally, we also learned today that Wii U hardware on its own is now profitable. Meaning that even at low sales, its still making money on its own even without a single game sale.

What this all means is that Nintendo is not going to abandon a low selling profitable console and risk ruining its relationship with current Nintendo core. Instead they will continue to support the console for a normal life span which is commonly at least 5 years or 2017.

With the current pace of Wii U sell-through, I've been stating I believed we'd see something new in 2015 with a launch in 2016. NOW I am back to the original pre-WiiU launch belief that we won't see a new Nintendo home console until holiday 2017 and it may be shown to world in 2016 at the earliest.

So stop with the redesigned WiiU/gamepad-less design/etc crap. Nintendo is not going to make the same mistake SEGA did and kill of a main console early. It's not going to drop the biggest benefit the console has. Its now setup to make marginal to great profits while it prepares for a normal time frame between generational hardware launches.

What are those "many other games" scheduled for 2014 and 2015? They are not in the Nintendo report. By many others you mean 1 or 2 games?

We still don't know if the Wii U is profitable or just break even. Up until the end of this FY, the console was being sold at a loss, so I don't think Nintendo is just happy of breaking even taking into accoun t that the attach rate is bad. With a low userbase that buys few games, it's quite difficult to make any money, and even if you did, it will be really small quantities.

Nintendo didn't say they wouldnt be releasing a new console before 2017, that's just made up. The wording was totally different.

I believe that the "many other games" referred to are the 15 upcoming third party games that are listed in the Nintendo report.

Wii U was being sold at a loss as at end of March this year, but it appears that since then, it has been selling at a profit.

All Iwata has said is that there is work on new hardware in the pipeline as there always is, and that they won't be releasing a new console until existing Wii U owners are satisfied. No dates confirmed.

No, he just listed 1st party games and said many others that are known for 2014 and 2015. Nintendo is listing eshop indie games for christ's sake, that's pathetic.

How does it appear to be that the console is being sold at a profit? Where did Iwata said that? Not selling at a loss =/= selling at a profit.

That last line is purely subjective and speculative. So vague that it could mean that after this E3 most users will be satisfied, hence the announcement of a new console. See how vague it is? And even the wording or translation is terrible. Being satisfied is different than having enough of something.

They better had! Seriously, if they ditched Wii U this, or even the following year, a good amount of 'hardcore Nintendo fans' would be gone for sure.

They know they screwed up, they know that Wii U only generates losses (up until now), but the stupidest thing to do right now would be to introduce new hardware.

Not yet. Not even in their Japanese webpage.

Last time, it was released 2 days after the briefing, so it shoud be later today in Japan.
As for the English version, it took 3 more days to finally appear. Expect it by next Monday at the latest.

FY2016 is the one ending in March 2016 and FY 2017 ending in March 2017, therefore releasing hardware in FY 2017 means Holiday 2016.

This has been obvious for months. Is mostly sony fans the ones that are trying to make everybody else believe that the Wii U will be killed in 2016 or even sooner, but that just isn't happening.

I don't know who those sony fans are because I'm also a sony fan but I don't want the Wii U to end that soon.  I paid good money for my Wii U so it better last long!!!  Heck im still not done with my PS3 and Wii!
