I recommend Sunshine. That movie was so under rated.

Most Coen Brothers Movies.

Especially: Fargo, The Big Lebowski, Millers Crossing, Barton Fink, No Country For Old Men.

Absolutely! Love their movies!

If someone didn't hear of them before, look them up on IMDb and just pick a movie. You will love it. :)

I will post some Chinese movies in this thread later, but now I get off work so I don't have time.

Yeah, great show.

I would list some movies but I'm not a big enough movie-fan to list any that aren't already well-known.

催眠大师/The Great Hypnotist (2014)

It's a movie about a psychotherapist that specializes in hypnotherapy and is traumatized and haunted by the past, the female patient has a problem, that she can see people from the other side. They want to communicate with her and she wants to find out why, she is terrified and confused. No one can treat her condition, so her last hope is to see this psychotherapist whom might know how to fight back.

The psychotherapist finds her stories about ghost hard to belive and wants proof, so he digs more into her past to find some errors in her stories. When he does, he finds himself being...

I don't really want to tell any more about the movie as I would spoil too much of the story. It's a deep movie, and very interesting. The ending for me was surprising to say the least. It's all a big puzzle.

同桌的妳/My Old Classmate (2014)

A romantic comedy about a boy that meets a girl in primary school and falls in love(how original?). The girl however has problems with her eyes and can't see very clearly, so she is bullied from the first day as she moved to this new school. The boy she gets to share desk with protects her, but finds himself being beaten up, over and over again.

The girls dream is to one day study at the Harvard Univerity in the USA, so this becomes the boys dream as well. They grow up together and he promises to follow her whereever she may go.

Some funny things happens along the way. A crazy American student at her university falls inlove with her(yep, a love drama, very original) and this of course makes things more complicated for all of them.

The movie has a lot of funny parts that reflects big events throughout the history, as the movie is telling a story from 1990-2014. How Facebook was invented and many other crazy things. Everything told in a funny way of course.

Eventually the boy moves to the USA and starts a career in IT, but it doesn't turn out as good as planned.

Overall it's a funny movie, and I'd say it's sort of a mix between American Pie and an (Asian)romantic comedy.

Alright:

- I second kowen, and I do recommend The Big Lebowski, Jeff Bridges is awesome, and Steve Buscemi and John Goodman have great parts in that movie. I'll add Intoreable Cruelty and Burn After reading. Oh, and True Grit (again Jeff Bridges), and O Brother where art thou are also rather good.

- Yeah, Kurosawa. But, try a trailer first, I've watched Yojimbo, and Seven Samurais, great movies they can be too slow for some people. If you are into Hollywood fast paced starndars, you may want to skip those. You'll be missing some great movies tho.

- Great recommendation from pauluzzz1981, Das leben der anderen, amazing movie.

- As many have said, pretty much anything from Ghibli, and as KingWithNoKrown if you are into anime Princess Mononoke is a must. Ohtomo's Akira, and Steamboy are also recommended, and Metropolis (the German Classic is also recommended, but again, a slow movie).

- I didn't like The Fracture, it was ... meh.

Now my personal suggestions. Michel Gondry's The science of sleep is one of my personal favourites. Be Kind Rewind, and The Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, are not bad either.

Fatih Akin's Soul Kitchen is a superb comedy.

You may also want to check Shaolin Soccer and Kun-fu Hustle from Stephen Chow, but I've been told that his older stuff is much funnier.

Uhm and also, from Tomas Alfredson Let the right one in (there is also a hollywood remake), and Tinker Taylor Soldier Spy.

I could keep going but, well, thats the first stuff that came up in my mind.
