Forums - General Discussion - Looking to hire a VGChartz-er for a data entry job..

Wasn't sure where to post this.

But as some of you may or may not know, I co-own a company that does sales data for a market that runs parralel to what VGChartz does, for online sales data for video games.

I've had another job open up that takes away all of my time from doing the data processing/entry, and need to hire someone in that can handle the work. Its about 15-20 hrs/wk and involves a lot of Excel and Powerpoint manipulation. Most of the work involves taking the data from our databases, and processing them into meaningful charts on a monthly basis, and doing a quick write-up about general insights from month to month.

Additionally, if this initial offer went well, there could be more work that can get added onto it, leading to more hours/better pay.

The requirements are as follows:

  • Moderate knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Powerpoint (ownership of said programs would be useful).
  • Love of data & sales information - data needs to be analyzed and vetted on a monthly basis.
  • Good computer with 10-15GB of storage space available (we have some large sheets that can take up a sizable amount of space). Files can tax your PC, so something with a reasonable about of RAM and a decent CPU would be a huge plus (any mid/high end system made within the past 5 years would work well).
  • Can commit 15-20hrs a week to this job. There are no time constraints, and the data can be processed at any time.
  • Knowledge of online gaming systems a plus (Steam, XBL, PSN, eShop, iOS/Android marketplaces)
Pay would start at $10/hr and go up from there depending on how well you do. The company would put you on a 1099 as a contractor. Pay would be once a month upon successful completion of the first round of reports.
If you have interest, feel free to reply here, message me on VGC, or E-mail be at Ben [at] BuyAHash.com (one of my corp E-mails unassociated with this particular project).

Off topic general discussion is pretty dead.. No interest in a job but i'll bump it anyway..

I figured that OT General would be the most apt place, as a posting in the sales/gaming forums wouldn't be appropriate.

Well its the right place but Off topic / general doesn't show up at the frontpage, so it died out a long time ago.. Galaki is on life support.. You would even get more responces if you would have posted it in off topics / movies discussion

Another good idea would be to put it in a flashy sig and post like crazy for a while ;)

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

what kind of database?

..and if i write code that completes the tasks in 10 seconds can i still claim i worked 20 hours?

I'd need to check with our developer, but I believe its MongoDB.

If you can write code that could translate the raw CSV's into actionable Excel spreadsheets with charts propigated in PDFs, we could probably look at some sort of payment well in excess of $10/hr, as our current developer gets paid ~$45/hr when he's working on improving the database. So we'd be willing to work with you

bold sounds easy,... but then you already have a developer so i'm guess the problem statement is more complex than it seems.

haven't worked with mongo.   i've propigated charts into word but not pdf.

if you have a requirments doc already put together you could send it my way.   although, i'm going to have a baby any day now so i'm not sure i really should be taking on side work.

The problem is more in that the developer was hired to deal with getting platforms and data automated, rather than translate CSV to Excel. I imagine it'd be pretty easy to do. If you can propigate charts into word, it could be manually translated into a PDF pretty easily.

Message me for E-mail details and I'll work on formulating the document tonight for you.
