Where have i said Nintendo need to focus less on art style and more on graphics? I'm simply disappointing they haven't tried to excel in both. My mention of other members was that i was told i was wrong for believing MK8 wasn't pushing the WiiU at 720p/60fps, yet some of those same users were perfectly accepting that MK8 could now be 1080p/60fps (which resource wise is like running the game twice, contradicting their first statement that i was wrong). BenVTrigger put it well "A game can be 4k with insane texture quality and still be highly stylized. There is no negative result of higher fidelity graphics." |
I'm well aware that you never said Nintendo needs to shift focus, though I can see why you'd think that given how I worded my sentence.
But my point still stands: You are one of the more prominent examples of a Nintendo fan that cares about graphics. You may not value it above art style, but you do care which is evident by the fact that you refer to Mario Kart 8's graphics as "disappointing". This puts you closer to your own perception of the new average Nintendo fan than the actual average Nintendo fan.

Really? They're the most creative and awesome tracks to date! You must've HATED the other Mario Karts...

No? I actually like those more. Wii version was a mix to me but this one seems ok at best to me.
Proud to be the first cool Nintendo fan ever

Predictions for Nintendo NX and Mobile

Hint: The last sentence doesn't even remotely make the first part of your post more pertaining to the thread. This thread is about graphics, not about what will be the better game or about why you think there's no reason to buy Driveclub (Oh and btw. Driveclub: arcade; Project Cars: simulation; different audiences).

It would be more acurate to describe myself as PC gamer with a strong love for Sony/Nintendo and just a dash of Halo for good measure :P It's not the value being put on the graphics i don't understand, it's the willing ignorance. I may be disappointed by MK8's graphics, but i accept them for what they are and am please to see Nintendo's art style has transitioned well into HD. It's the willing ignorance of some users that's baffled me :/
Can you imagine if someone claimed MK7 to be both an artistic and graphical power house compared to GT5? I'd agree with them on the style side, but laugh at them about the graphical. In reality that kind of mentality was almost non-existence among Nintendo fans (at least here on VGC anyway), until recently.
I certainly care more about graphics than many Nintendo fans (tis' a curse we PC gamers must live with), but i don't refuse to see past my own biases. Just like how i'm disappointing by MK8's graphics, i was hugely disappointed by Knack (artistically, graphically, performance... Knack was just awful really), and was irritated by Killzone's use of FXAA (whyyy Gorilla? Whyyyy? ;----;).
inFamous is probably the only 8th gen title thus far i haven't had much reason to complain about graphically or artistically. As long i ignore that Delsin is a vampire :p

Apologies; I didn't realize that Mario Kart was only accessible for children. Guess that makes me and millions of others children for wanting to play (what appears) to be an excellent title.
OT: I don't think it's fair to compare a realistic game to a cartoony one; obviously the realistic one will loo better (initially) but it doesn't mean you can downplay the other title. Super Mario Galaxy and Wind Waker are good examples of this.

Do you mean AI? cause wii u games certainly has that better than most games from other companies. |
No Im referring to image quality or the overall cleaness of the image. The 2 biggest factors of IQ are resolution and Anti Aliasing. So far Wii U games tend to be pretty jaggy / blurry and dont have that high of image quality.
Graphically speaking in every other way Im plenty happy with MK but if they could add sone 4x MSAA to it it would really look stunning

My comment was made to someone who said he doesnt want higher fidelity in Mario Kart because it would look bad and lose its style. It would look too realistic.
I was saying there is no negative in terms of impact on art style with higher fidelities.
