I'd consider it pretty likely, cause as I've already posted there are 2 sites that said at the same day that the game is 720p. Also all screenshots for the game are 720p, don't you think that's a bit odd?

It is, but it also wouldn't be the first time I've seen a game get a resolution buff not long before its release.

As big as a Mario Kart fan i am, there's no way you have played the best offerings of the PS3 and 360 to make a statement like that.  So your saying that it looks better then games like

If you think those games look better than MK8, you are forced to say they look better than ps4 titles too or else it's hypocrisy.

I don't own a PS4 or an Xbox One at this time so i couldn't make that statement (I'd probably say they do look better then any PS4 game at this time though even if i did) but this is about you saying Mario Kart 8 looked twice as good as any PS3/360 game and those are a few games i have played on both those consoles that i would consider to look as good or better then MK8. You can't compare games like these to a kart racer that is more meant for fun and gameplay then pretty realistic graphics.

realistic graphics? this is about GRAPHICS, and MK8 pushes it a lot more than ps360 ever could. if you want to talk about opinion, you can say you prefer those ps3 games but that's it.

I really don't see why ya'll get so much out of 720p vs 1080p. I'd bet you wouldn't notice the difference on nearly all of your TVs.

Cartoony games tend to have lower production values not because of their choice of art style, but because of a factor related to the dreaded "Animation Age Ghetto". There's nothing to suggest that such games are categorically inferior, just that they tend to be lower-budget on the balance.


To achive proper realism, you need better AA, more complex geometry and character models, superior lightning and physics, waay more detailed (and thus bigger) textures, more realistic (and thus more demanding) animations, motion capture and much more polygons. There is also stuff like particle effects and clothing animation. Did I really have to explain this?

Except for textures and a certain extent of character models, all of that could be done in a cartoony game. You're talking about effort put into the game period, which, as i said, is a factor that cartoony games tend to be lower-budget on the whole. They do not have to be.

Which was more impressive? Super Mario Galaxy 2 or No More Heroes 2?

Of course it can be done on a cartoony game, but all of them are waay more harder amd demanding on a realistic game than a cartoony game, which was the point of my post and what you asked.

Aso, I heard a statement from some tech industry big shot that somewhere around 5 TFlops are required for a photorealistc game, which again proves that better than realism = more demanding power

Yes, because it takes a NASA supercomputer to run a graphical beast that is Mario Kart, with its cartooney textures, bad AA and incredibly simple geometry at 1080p/60fps.

GT5 and 6 are technically way more demaning games than Mario Kart (and yes they are both at 1080p/60fps while pushing realism), which is to be expected since one is a cartooney game and one is a racing sim, but there are actually people out there that think MK8 is technically more impressive...


There is a difference between 1280x1080 and 1920x1080 while both is 1080p... Not sure if MK8 is 1920x1080 but your points are off (cartoony textures is nothing bad or less technical demanding).
