That's freaking awesome

Richard_Feynman said: That's very cool! Magnetic tapes have many benefits and with one little tape like this you can backup all your stuff without ever worrying about running out of space. So cool! (now where are the people that say Sony don't ever do new things?) |
I agree that Sony does do new things, but using cassette tapes as an example is kind of funny.

So on a DVD the size of a 12" Vinyl you should be able to store over 6,250 tb

I knew laserdisc was in line for a comeback.

Those are dual sided! 12,5 Peta bytes!
You can store all your memories 5 times!
Neurology: It is estimated that the human brain's ability to store memories is equivalent to about 2.5 petabytes of binary data.
Still not enough, must reach this goal:
5 Exabytes: All words ever spoken by human beings.
Whenever a new technology or device is announced, the first thing on everyone's mind is, "How's the porn on it?" ~_~
That's the most storage I've ever heard of on one device.
Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.
Gaming on: PS4, PC, 3DS. Got a Switch! Mainly to play Smash
sadly this is unlikely to be something you will see anytime soon, even in the enterprise. most multi TB tapes are expensive for both tapes and drives so they end up capping out under 10TB even though they have been able to create them bigger than this for a long time now. Even the densities developed by IBM 4-5 years ago still aren't in use today as the tape reading technology to make practical use of these densities has been prohibitively expensive. basically it ends up cheaper to go to tape libraries where you can get sizes in the multi Exabyte range rather than going to massive dense tapes and then paying megabucks for the drives for them.
