For the record, Kadokawa is the company that published Killer is Dead, Demon's Gaze and one of their biggest money makers (gameswise), KanColle. they also do a bunch of anime  and manga and several tie-in games

Does that mean they're leaving Dark Souls behind? Or do they own the IP?

Wow, Kadokawa seems to be everywhere these days. I swear I see their logo in half of the Animes I watch.

From Software owns the IP, they self publishSouls in Japan. Bandai Namco only localizes it and since Kadokawa doesn't have a western branch, it seems fair game

While Square Enix; Capcom and all the massive Japanese companies are trying to extend into the mobile space; Kadokawa are trying to extend into the dedicated gaming space.
