Also guys, is Persona 3 Portable a good place to start for somebody entering the series? I want to go for PG4 but i might be able to pick up P3P! |
There's two different types of Persona games, one part of the series, Persona 3 and 4, are very story heavy and add the extra turn option when attacking weaknesses plus the all out attack, while the first three, Persona 1 and 2, are more exploration based but still have a deep storyline, there's no extra turn option, but you hae guns and back row weapons since all characters aren't in the front row. Persona 3 and 4 have shadows as enemies, while the others use demons from the rest of the franchise and on the others, you talk to the demons to get their Persona, rather than having a chance to get a Persona based on the floor or floor and area in Persona 3 or 4.
If you have a PS2 or PS3, or even a 3DS(which I know you do, I'd actually recommend SMT Nocturne. SMT4, and Digital Devil Saga over them. I think these games are better than the Persona games as not only do they have great storylines, but the gameplay is much better, and the well designed dungeons and world. Digital Devil Saga is almost as good as Nocturne, but i'd actutally recommend it more to a beginner because of how it plays. All three games have the press turn system which reduces turns you can take or increases turns based on hitting weaknesses or strengths. On Nocturne and SMT4 however you recruit demons sort of like a dark style Pokemon. On Digital Devil Saga, you have a specific amount of characters with three allowed in your party at one time, switcheable at any time outside of combat or during combat if needed. The characters stick with the same strengths and weaknesses through the entire game, but there's sort of a class system called mantra. Each mantra you master allows the character to permanently keep those skills. While you're still limited in combat to how many skills you can have equipped at once, when you're outside of combat, you can customize the characters battle skills anyway you like. The game is still very difficult, but it's easier to manage than having the right demons. Although you're a Pokemon fan and you're used to the whole team building aspect, so you should be fine with Nocturne and SMT4, but DDS would be easier for some to get into.
