wii u is very expensive.
theu need at least a 250$ mk bundle or even a 200$ wii sports club bundle for the holiday to stand a minimum chance.

Possibly, can't say for sure.
One thing GC had that WIIu doesn't was a superb (and underrated ): ) lineup of games, and an extremely cheap price.

I keep saying that WiiU will reach anywhere between 20-30 million but it looks less likely by the day. Mario Kart is its last real system seller, it's the last franchise that sold like 30m copies on Wii. The others all have failed to elevate WiiU sales: NSMBU, WiiU Play, WiiUFit, all are sequels to the most popular Wii games.

I voted Yes.

Because the market is bigger today and Nintendo has more IPs. Basically.

But, however, it will all come down to the lenght of years for the console. If Nintendo will let it "live" for as long as PS4 and X1, then yes it will beat GC, easily. But, as we all know there are more elements to this. What if MK8, Zelda U, Mario U, SSB etc. just fail/suck. And Nintendo do some really bad marketing decisions etc. Well, that wouldn't really help them.

People often talk about the X1 not released in as many markets as the PS4, and this is the reason they don't sell so much. Well, the Wii U is not released in Hong Kong yet, after over 1 year on the market.

So my answers is Yes, with a little doubt.

And of course I don't want them to fail. If they can sell 50+ millions I am very pleased.

I say it's possible. In gen 6 I feel that the gaming landscape was very different than it is now. Gamers were younger on average, and games were still growing in popularity. There were a lot of people who could only afford one of the systems, and most of them went with PS2. Now however, you've got a whole generation of gamers that grew up and now have disposable income. All my friends growing up had one system at a time, and now all my friends pretty much have everything they want. Those tens of millions of kids waiting for Christmas are now tens of millions of dudes that can spend their money on whatever they want.

That said, even if it takes a few years, I think the Wii U will eventually sell decently well. Imagine two years from now when it's seen one or two more price drops and it's got your Zeldas and your Mario Karts and even more games that haven't been announced yet. When you can get one along with a fat stack of awesome games for a decent price, I think a ton of people will pick one up. Whether or not it will still prove profitable for Nintendo is yet to be seen, but I could see it turning around drastically as far as pure units goes.

The way things are going, I doubt it... I wish it would sell well and give them a profit... I personally love the system. It is currently my favourite console!

Yes (don't really have anything to support this), but it could end up being very close. It really depends on how well MK8 does (which will help show us how well other huge games will do).

Bets:

1. If the Wii U sells closer to 10 million LTD by 1/3/2015 I win. If it sells closer to 9.5 million LTD by 1/3/2015 OfficerRaichu15 wins (winner gets 2 weeks of avatar control)--Lost.

After 2013, i think it has 0% chance to even think of reaching Gamecube's LTD unfortunately.

This year will be its peak year with ~4.5million WiiU's shipped because of a decent but short lived boost through Smash and Mario Kart.

Next year things will start to get even more ugly with The Legend of Zelda pushing a few more consoles totalling ~3million for the year.

In 2016 WiiU will be on its deathbead most likely and will be discontinued that year (or not and in 2017 it will sell an incredibly low number for the year). Add some 1.5million to its LTD.

All in all, going by what i said WiiU will finish its life with ~15 million shipped. And im being optmistic about this year's boost.

Not-so-proud owner of every current-gen system.

Next-gen is upon us folks!

No
sales don't show that being a possibility.
Doubt they can cut the price enough fast nuf to maybe do it.
Also it lack market relevant software to do it.
Comp is stronger then even before.

by my current projections no but is close which makes it possible and would be a good candidate for a nintendo fan to make a "is it possible" WiiU > GC "i believe so" thread i think it would lure a lot of naysayers at this juncture

6M current 4M for the rest of yr being generous since i believe it will be 4M all of 2014

2015 4m

2016 3M

2017 2M

2018 1.5M

im still ending up with 20.5M with a very generous outlook
