Sony Quietly Removes Ability to Download PSP/PS One Games Unlocked a Few Days Ago on PS Vita

by Giuseppe Nelva (52 minutes ago) 4

A few days ago we reported about Sony suddenly unlocking a large amount of PSP games and PlayStation Classics for download and play on the PS Vita.

Unfortunately it’s time to mourn, as that ability was quietly removed this morning. None of those games is available for download anymore.

Luckily, those that we did download still work, making us wonder why Sony doesn’t just officially implement the feature, instead of keeping that wealth of content locked away from PS Vita users.

Sony Computer Entertainment did not respond to inquiries about the issue, and didn’t offer any explanation on why the games have been unlocked to begin with and then re-locked, but at this stage the most probable theory is that someone flipped by mistake a trigger that was not supposed to be flipped.

Great. Bought Crash 1, 2, and 3 Sunday and now I can only play them on my PS3. Didn't think of downloading them to my Vita yet because I currently didn't want to play them and didn't think I needed to.  I already own these games on disc so I could have already played them on PS3.  The reason I bought them is so I could play them on the Vita.

Maybe they waiting for the announcement at E3.

That's... unfortunate, but I've thought it's been pretty obvious for a while that this was a glitch so I'd have thought most people would've aired on the side of caution.  If you'd have downloaded them to your Vita, you could've just copied them back to your PS3 and kept the Vita-compatible versions saved on there (I think?)

OT: I'm disappointed I didn't manage to get every game I wanted in time, but I'm still 3 PSP and 3 PS1 games better off than I was, so can't be too upset.

Wonder if we'll ever see this happen again.

I had no idea it was a glitch, plus my memory card is full right now.  There are some games I need to complete then I was going to remove them.  PS+ stuff.

Well that sucks. Oh well, I don't have a Vita anyway.

I think they were/are planning to announce it at E3. So yeah, just wait until then. It'll probably be one of those opening "big news" they have stored for the Vita, especially if there aren't a lot of games for the system to be announced.

B***t they remove only the options ps1/ps2 classic on game section on store the psp games option is there along with psvita games you can find ps1/ps2 games and downloded if you search them

Most likely waiting for the 1.70 / vita firmware updates to flip the switch again.

Sony screwing people over again even with PAID retro-compatibility.
