Forums - Nintendo Discussion - What if Nintendo's quality of life product is... VR?

I hope they do VR, I want to play porn games with it.

They said it's gonna be non-wearable, and you have to wear stuff to use Virtual Reality.

After thinking over what you said, I have the following question: If they made it as an arcade machine for hospitals, clinics etc. would that be concidered wearable? I don't think so.

I also thought that QOL could be something for hospital robots and/or people with disabilities.

If Nintendo really does VR, then they are done for. Enough with the expensive niche products.

They will do it.. been working on it last many years..

(and wii-u IS a vr machine.. bird demo, street view app..  All they have to do is making a headset. mayby with better gyro and motion.. but they allready has the tech..... wireless low lag gyro controlled external screen)

Ont: I have been thinking the same.. could it be vr.. but the non-wearable says it not.. and like statet (many times last 2 years) Wii-U is made for it.. a preperials for wii-u (like sing star and eyetoy) would make so much sense

And nintendo did say in 2006 that the "wii" name will make sense when we know the full picture..  Wii-R (VR)

I just hope it isnt some portable fitness studio.

We have to figure out this: (???)

Health - Education -  Lifestyle -  ???

I'm thinking the next logical step is Psychological & Relaxation related to make people feel less stressed.

If Nintendo could figure out how to help people feel relaxed in a highly stressful world, the potential market would certainly be a new "Blue Ocean".

As for what tech they have found to reach this goal, I have no idea.

Looking at the Wii U controller it's not hard to imagine how it could be redesigned into a VR head set, but it's only 480p at 60FPS, it would need to use the same image for each eye to stay at 60 FPS & the screen would need to be rotated and "stretched" to simulate an HD look with 480(stretched)x800, not unlike the Oculus DK1, but not in 3D unless it went to 30FPS which isn't good for VR.

It could be done, & for cheap ($100-$140), but it would be the worst modern VR headset behind Morpheous & Oculus, but it still may be a good move to generate interest in the Wii U, but that would be seperate from the QOL platform, imo.

Nice you understand.. many do not

But it's not sure it will be only 480p.. mayby 960p (nintendo did say wii-u supports 2 upads) and mayby the wii-u can send more rez to an other screen.. even if the current external screen only is 480p.. i know alots of "if" but i know i can't wait for e3 :)

Lol, I forgot about that part.

Then I'll change the statement. Non-wearable VR it is! xD

I mean, someone has to do that as well. Think of it as a mix between 3DS, oculus and Google Street View.

i thought that by "non-wearable" they mean something that you can't carry with you outside, like a phone or a tablet, or a hanheld, not LITEARLLY something that you can't "wear" so VR is not off the posibilities of "non-wearable"

Non-wearable. Totally Nintendo. Helps one quality of life.

I seem to recall it being disussed that when it uses two pads the frame rate goes from 60 fps to 30 fps & that was a technical bottleneck.  I guess Wii U VR games could have a special 600(stretched)x600 resolution and keep 60 FPS, a 3D headset would also cost more because it would need a higher definition screen that would arguably give a worse experience at 30fps.

Nintendo could say, "To hell with resolution!" and make a 60 FPS 3D headset that displayes at 400(stretched)x480 for each eye, esentially going back to SD.  With the power of an HD console outputting in SD you can then do more effects, like fullscreen motion blur, 4xAA, high resolution shadows, etc.  That might be the best recipe with what the Wii U gamepad (& the Wii U itself) can do.
