Forums - Sales Discussion - Can PS4 Beat 360's Record in NPD?

Even if I think PS4 will win in the US, I see this near impossible. PS4 will manage to stay up, but the Xbox One will win in the US thanks to Halo 2 and the newer Halo.

Halo normally release in September what I would not consider holidays...

And yes PS4 can beat the record...'can' honestly we can't predict anything at this point....lets wait till E3 and see what they both tell us...

No of course it won't, not sure why you're expecting this sort of domination in the US. It barely won February, it didn't win November by a landslide amount either.

The only month it's been a huge win is January.

360 didn't win every single month with a good gap... some was below 10k diff.

I think the PS4 will sell better in the US, but every time a new Halo releases I think Xbox One will sell better than the PS4, so 32 months may be impossible.

I would have agreed with this sentiment had it not been for TF.  Now I'm really not sure if MS has anything to dig themselves out of this hole.  Halo helped alot when they had a price and userbase advantage. Now that they have neither... I'm not so sure it will be nearly as effective.

Realistically speaking TF is a new IP that carried the burden of being ONLINE ONLY. Lets not forget those distinctions. Halo and Gears of War with competetive pricing should not be underestimated.

TF has been heavily advertised, has developer pedigree, and the console was more competively priced during it's debut. Online is the big draw for the game.  I bet CoD could even get away with no campaign.  It's not even the first disc anymore.

It will be 18 months before we see either of those games.  By the time they hit the market if sales remain constant then x1 will have a completely backwards position compared to the 360 when it got those games.  It will be the console with the smaller userbase and higher price.

I don't think I'm underestimating the games so much as  recognizing that the context in which they appear this time will be vastly different. It might be like MK did 34.43 million on Wii but MK8 isn't going to be anywhere near that.

That's correct. And yet it doesn't change the fact that it's a new IP that's online only. All I'm saying is that TF not moving alot of systems (the game itself did great BTW) is somehow indicative of Halo's or Gears of War's future performance.

It's possible (specially after the unexpected march victory) but unlikable.

Halo was a new IP as was Gears of War when it debuted on 360.  Being a new or old IP doesn't really matter.  Online only is not a big cramp in the appeal of games that are about online MP.

A big AAA shooter and price cuts have already not altered the trajectory of their console sales much if at all. I think that may be indicative of what other Big AAA shooters and price cuts will be able accomplish.

Microsoft will have to make some major moves to stop this from happening. If they don't unbundle Kinect this year I think they will become irrelevent.

Once PS Now and Sony's cloud TV service hit this year, I think they will gain a solid hold on the US. Then we will have project morphious which I think is going to be a major hit. Add in 3rd party titles that contiue to look better and better on PS4, and SCEWWS hitting their stride, and PS4 will have a major advantage in every catagory. Finally, PS4 hardware has a much quicker cost reduction route, so they will win in price all generation.

The 360 streak was from mid 2010 (thanks to Kinect) until last september when GTA V was heavely bundled with PS3.

The Wii won December 2010.  So assuming the 32 months is correct, that means 2011, 2012, and through August 2013.

EDIT: They also weren't counting handhelds.

It's possible, but it probably won't happen thanks to Halo bundurus and price cuts!

Why people keeps saying US is Xbox territory? Just because of the Xbox 360??? What happened with ps2 vs Xbox or whats happening with ps4 vs Xbox One?

People buys the best console and Sony has it this 8th gen, there's nothing more to argue about.

PS4 hasn't even one big exclusive yet, wait for The order or Uncharted 4 and see how ps4 tramples the xbox.

Anyway 32 months is a very difficult mark to beat and i don't think ps4 can because there's going to be months with halo or games like that that will put XOne on top just for that month
