Forums - Sales Discussion - XB1 back at $499 in US?

I guess they think the console didn't sell well enough for them to make it a permanent price drop. At least for now.

I was walking down along the street and I heard this voice saying, "Good evening, Mr. Dowd." Well, I turned around and here was this big six-foot rabbit leaning up against a lamp-post. Well, I thought nothing of that because when you've lived in a town as long as I've lived in this one, you get used to the fact that everybody knows your name.

That's some great logic. "This price cut isn't boosting sales, time to increase the price!"

Maybe it was just temporary... maybe?

I think Microsoft is going to wait a see how sales look at $500 for the next few weeks, compare it to the sales while it was at $450, and extrapolate what sales would be like at $400 from that data. Then they're going to decide if the sales benefit of a lower price offsets the money they'd be losing per console sold. If they do decide that a price drop is worth it to them they'll then announce it at E3 so that they get free publicity and possibly even ther perception that they "won E3" assuming the rest of their conference is good as well.

That's not going to make buyers happy.

Not possible, the console has had at least three price cuts

What will this do to sales?

With Titanfall hype dying out (as one would expect; individual games only provide short-term boosts), I suspect that April NPD will see it get dangerously close to 200k. I have a feeling that this quarter won't be as good as the last quarter for the XBO.

Isn't Q2 normally lower than Q1?

I didn't know it was temporary. I know of limited offers and stuff but a whole month doesn't really scream "temporary". This pricecut was hailed as the savior and haven't seen anyone once mentioning that it will just last a month and go back up again.

It was a limited offer. Everyone knew that.

I knew that, but I did not expect it to be temporary.  I expected it would turn into an official cut.

Just my opp. but I think now many people who saw the system could be had for $449 will wait for the price to drop again.

Microsoft had nothing to do with the price cut. One retailer did it and then others followed. Can't expect Microsoft to change their plans just because some stores were getting frisky!

Also, everyone should know price cuts are inevitable, so it wont have an impact on anything. Anyone who still decided to wait despite the $450 deal was gonna keep waiting regardless.

So you thought that it wasn't temporary even though you had to use a discount code for some retailers?

The $450 version was freely available on Amazon without any need for codes.

Amazon started with the whole code thing. By putting "1" or something in the box and then it dropped to $450.
