After a cursory glance at hardware sales from the past few decades, I've found a disturbing trend that may explain why Wii U, GameCube, and other systems have failed to capture the market. And that, my friends...

Bear with me here. I'm already aware of an expection to the rule: the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. However, since it's more commonly referred to as SNES, I'm inclined to think that the "u" issue is a marketing problem and not some sort of diabolical curse. With that adressed, I present the raw numbers backing my theory.

Unlisted: Atari Jaguar, Virtual Boy
TurboGrafx-16 sold roughly 10 million worldwide, but was most successful in Japan where it was known as the PC Engine. 3DO, Virtual Boy, and Atari Jaguar are abysmal, but I admit that the "Interactive Multiplayer" part of the 3DO name isn't typically known.
It's pretty sad, really, to see how Saturn, GameCube, and Wii U correlate in ways beyond what we'd typically consider. I can't blame the letter U, though. Nintendo has itself to blame for not seeing the potential for failure. :/
