Forums - Movies & TV - Bluray getting desperate; new content is actually old content

I just saw a horror movie and then I saw this thread. I almost lost consciousness..

It is pretty bullshit how they put DVD special features on blu-ray. Sometime they don't even bother to upscale that shit to widescreen.

Blu-ray has lost it's luster to me. I used to buy them, but the price to visual quality doesn't match up to Netflix. Even a $10 blu-ray has less value than one month of Netflix.

Yeah, blu-ray is nothing but ports. There are practically ZERO exclusives (am I wrong?).Why would I even want a blu-ray player?

Hmpf.

Just bought Harry Potter Chamber of Secrets on BluRay the other day!

The movie is fantastic and the visual fidelity is beyond what I expected, but....

I can't help but feel that this is just a cash grab. The movie just came out a year ago on DVD, there really was no reason to re-release this movie. I mean, sure, I understand that this is one of the biggest franchises of all time, but there's a new movie coming out next year, prisoner of azkeban. If it were me, I would say wait some time on porting the series over to HD.

And that's my VGC opinion.

... Pretty sure these films came out ages ago, I bought the boxset on bluray a couple of years ago o.O

what I was thinking. I have no idea what this thread is about.

Same reason why people want a PS4, native 1080p

Well, that's not really a huge selling point, but I guess if I had a ps4, it would make sense to buy content that the console was built for.

Eh, I get what you're going for, but there is a big difference in terms of shelf life of movies vs games, the amount of effort that goes into each, the typical price. Etc etc.

So your argument is that the company should have just ported Harry Potter with no upscaling, simply to allow BR owners to watch it, and then rerelease it later in actual HD?

Keep in mind that some new BRs are in the 40-50$ range.

I agree. They should have gone back in time and made the creators of the Harry Potter films record MORE footage. They should also have holographic footage waiting for when we finally have holographic TVs. If I have a holographic TV and they don't have bonus footage ready to take advantage of the format, I'm gonna be pissed!
