Forums - Movies & TV - Bluray getting desperate; new content is actually old content

Just bought Harry Potter Chamber of Secrets on BluRay the other day!

The movie is fantastic and the visual fidelity is beyond what I expected, but....

I can't help but feel that this is just a cash grab. The movie just came out a year ago on DVD, there really was no reason to re-release this movie. I mean, sure, I understand that this is one of the biggest franchises of all time, but there's a new movie coming out next year, prisoner of azkeban. If it were me, I would say wait some time on porting the series over to HD.

And that's my VGC opinion.

BluRay is Doomz

EDIT: Die Hard saga in Blu-Ray is nice, though!

yippie kai yay

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets on Blu-ray was released in 2007 according to blu-ray.com... The Prisoner of Azkaban, too. Or are you joking? I sometimes don't get irony in English...

The Taxi Driver "Mastered in 4K" Edition is some kind of cash grab. The old Blu-ray was already transferred in 4K and downscaled to 1080p. The new edition is the same mastering with only a slightly higher bitrate. You can't really distinguish the two versions in motion.
And the "4K" editions are somewhat false marketing, it's only 1920x1080 with high quality transfers and high bitrates. Some normal Blu-rays like Baraka look better than most of them.

No. With the xb1 here now, we have two consoles running bluray, so that is a recent growth factor, not one years old. Aldo, as to your original point about low priced/crap movies that are on bluray now that is actually a sign of success, bx when the format matures, it will pay off to have the low revenue titles in blu.

??? Another Harry Potter movie? I thought the series was done for.

EDIT: Oh wait, you mean a DVD/Blu-Ray release? I have no clue, I don't like the Harry Potter series.

No, physical formats are in decline. On-demand services are growing. They're also on PS4, X1 and Wii U and 7th gen consoles.

Almost true. Physical formats except for bluray are declining.  And more and more money and resources are being shifted to the format, I follow the film industry and see news about this regularly.
