Will Scotland be an independent country?

Yes 70 37.43%

Don't know 40 21.39%

No 75 40.11%

Total:185

I Think Scotland will win their independence and like all things this will have pros and cons.

Pro it will prevent another labour government (we still haven’t recovered from the previous one and probably never will).

Con it will make my union jack stuff pointless.

pro I’ll get extreme enjoyment when the Shetland islands have their own referendum to become either independent or part of the U.K again to prevent Scotland from taking all the north sea oil( irony is my favourite form of comedy).

Con I’ll have to put up with Scottish independent making it into the news every day for the foreseeable future.

Pro if their denied admission into the European Union that'll be bloody funny as well.

Con if they get to keep the pound I’ll be mildly annoyed.

So fairly even with 3 cons and 3 pros for me.

Heaven help us from the global economic crisis caused by the labour government.

Spoke to a guy from Scotland and he reckons it'll be close, apparently they are allowing 16+ to vote, me being Irish I think it would be a good thing for the country.

You being Irish? What has being Irish got to do with anything? Let me guess, you live in the past? Grow up lad. I'm Irish and I have no bad opinion of England or Scotland. If Scotland break away, our largest trading partner will be hurting to a huge extent which will hurt Ireland. Scotland will turn to Scandanavian countires for trade and Ireland will lose out. We will also lose out regarding tourists, as an independent Scotland will scoop about half of Irelands tourists once their government starts marketing the same old stuff our government does.

lol yeah that was a bit harsh of me.  I'll go on to say that I do feel that the Tories, labour and liberal democrats are equally responsible for the UK's current economic and social problems, I also feel that unless there is drastic change cutting down on immgration, massive spend on infrastructure whilst somehow reducing the deficit ,getting the lost generation into to permanent full time work, the situation will worsen. That being said I do feel it's too soon for another labour government since they have said there was nothing wrong with their previous one and a lot of their policy’s will most likely be reinstated which is what helped get us into this mess in the first place. Not that I’m too keen on the other 2 main parties (Tories, Lid Dems) getting re-elected either as they will also create more problems than solutions.

I thought Scotland joined the union in return for being bailed out of the debt from an expensive attempt to colonise part of the Americas.

Personally I hope Scotland remains part of the UK. But some pros would be that unpopular policies couldn't be shoehorned in by MPs whose constituencies said unpopular policies do not affect.

There is certainly scope for reform although if Scotland do vote to go it alone it needs to be a full on separation. None of this picking and choosing good bits while jettisoning the bad.

RIP Dad 25/11/51 - 13/12/13. You will be missed but never forgotten.

Considering the Blue Labour movement they might not have to.

Scotland would.. more than likely would remain a member of NATO, despite the suggestion that Scotland would close British bases and or have nuclear missles removed.

Which seems silly because removing those would seem more than in line with Scottish sentiment,
weakening British warmongering and removing a nuclear threat from the world.  If the nukes were removed and NATO withdrawn from,
anybody who takes those issues seriously would have reason to vote for Scottish independence just on those grounds.
I've seen talk about Scotland continuing to operate  expensive Eurofighter jets, which likewise is silly,
Scotland has no inherent need for that type of thing, which were created to fight the Soviet Union,
Cheap jet trainers which can be leased can suffice if some intercept capability to deal with hijacked airliners is desired.

Really?  Russian nuclear missle subs have recently entered Scottish waters.  Maybe a month or two ago, implying a direct threat that Russia still poses to any country.   Russia is getting brazen.

Right now everything Russia is doing smells of what Germany was doing prior to WWII.  Including Pro-Russian forces in the Ukraine requiring Jews to register.

No, that was well after the Union.

I forget what consequences there were as a result of the scheme with the Bank of Scotland, investors, and the two colonies in the UK, but what it did essentially do was mark the end of Scotland's dominance as an economic force.  Minor shareholders, most of the population of Scotland, lost their entire investment, but major shareholders, in a deal with Westminster, were compensated for their losses as I recall.

The BBC Series, A History of Scotland, covers this.  A great series if you want a brief overview of Scottish history.

Lol, taking tourists away from Ireland, so would that not be considered a good thing for scotland like I said?
