Forums - Sony Discussion - Since Sony is porting games left and right

I've recently been complaining about port after port from Sony, the recently released The Last of Us for PS3 being announced for PS4 and then for Vita, Epic Mickey 2, God of War HD Collection, Sly Cooper Collection, and they've recently ported Borderlands 2, Dead Nation, and Jak and Daxter.  Some of those games are good, but I'll point out a game that I think Sony should get the license and port.  Instead of porting games that ran well on the console, what about a game that didn't run well on the console and would benefit from using the features of the console it's being ported over to?

There's a reason behind  this port though.  Not only were the console games worse because they didn't have the optional overhead camera and the ability to strategically control your characters, but for Playstation fans who purchased the game on the PS3, you had to play through this amazing game with its massive amount of content with framerates that ran between 10-20fps and sometimes even dropped to the single digits.

Dragon Age Origins ran horribly on the PS3, so if placed on the Vita, take a slighit hit on the graphics to run at a stable 30fps, fix the bugs that were in the console versions, speed up the load times, allow optional touch screen use and add the overhead camera to allow you to control each character, etc.

It doesn't even have to be Dragon Age Origins.  What I'm saying is that instead of porting a game that people could already play well, Sony should pick and choose games that take advantage of the consoles extra features and make sure those features are optional.  If they're going to port them, show off the benefit of getting the game on this console rather than just a slight graphics upgrade, or in terms of Vita versions, nothing but portability.

I'm not arguing  that I want ports, because I'd rather not have them.  I'm saying that if Sony is going to be making these ports, they should choose better ports instead.  Ones that benefit gamers by making games more playable rather than just a higher resolution or portability.

They might be able to convince EA to release a Dragon Age Trilogy down the road after the third one comes out.

Edit: I mean on PS4, not Vita.

You really need to let this one go. Ports are a good thing. Good for people who haven't owned it before and good for devs to make some cash on the side. Be it with enhancements or not.

On one side you are arguing that ports take away resources from new games and on the other side you want devs using more resources to make the ports.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

What I'm saying with the post is that if there are ports, I'd rather them be games that the last gen consoles just couldn't handle or got crappy ports, or games that cater to the strengths of the console.  I gave Dragon Age Origins as an example as it's not only a poorly developed game for the PS3 with the framerate issues, but it could use the Vita's strengths to make it the best version that isn't PC.

They are literarily porting one game from PS3 to PS4. One game.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

Plus it doesn't actually take away that many resources anyway.  The game is already done. All assets, acting, tech, etc.  It's all there just waiting to be taken/ported onto whatever machine they are going to.  Yes the porting does take some time especially going from ps3-ps4.  But multiplatform games mostly already have PC versions that they can port to ps4/xb1 so it shouldn't take but a couple months to do that.   Wasn't it the warframe devs who said they ported from PC to ps4 in 3 months?

With TLOU though they have to upgrade all the textures and models though which could take more time, but again all those assets are already made.  They just are scaled down for ps3.

Where did this "porting games takes a lot of resources" come from anyway?

Gimme Onimusha 1 ,2 & 3 on ps3, and Dino Crisis 1 & 2 for vita and i'll be over the moon.

The thing is most of those games came out earlier in the last generation and not a lot of people are interested in those games anymore, most of the games that release now run fine on PS3, ofc there are exceptions like Skyrim.

I would welcome more ports on the Vita. Anything to stir up interest in the under-appreciated system.

Xbox One - PS4 - Wii U - PC

Only one big budget title has been ported by Sony. The other is just a rumor based on supposed leaked control schemes for the DS4 and Beyond: Two Souls that could be a fabrication or could have been for some other reasoning and we're reading too much into it. Beyond that (har har) is just a handful of indie titles. It's really not out of control like some people are making it seem.
