Forums - Gaming Discussion - Why is Titanfall Considered a Big Exclusive for XB1 but FFXIV not for PS4?

Both games are on the PC and last gen system. But for some reason people here and in general dont reconize that FF XIV is every bit as exclusive for the PS4 as Titanfall is for the XB1. Both games have just cosmetic differences from the last gen counterpart and the PS4 version of ARR actually has visual parity with the PC version.

In fact I would say FF is a bigger deal than some new shooter in a saturated market. FF IV ARR is the only true good MMO that plays well on a console, and lets not forget the fact it is an entry from one of the oldest franchises in gaming. Shooters are a dime a dozen these days.

I think the answer goes something like this. MS NEEDED Titanfall to be a system seller where as Sony is having trouble keeping up with demand as is and did not need to waste millions of dollars to hype it into oblivion.

End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

Cause FFXIV: ARR was already available nearly 6 months before the launch of the ps4 version on Windows vs TitanFall was available for both platforms at the same time

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

MS payed for Titanfall 'exclusivity' and marketed the hell out of it. FFIV is just a game that's on PC and PS4.

Titanfall is a game that people want to play (goes for both, Xbox and PlayStation fans) while Final Fantasy XIV is a game that people don't want to play (goes for both, PlayStation and Xbox fans).

Final Fantasy XIV was met with a collective "yawn" ever since its announcement as an MMORPG.

dat sweeping generalization x2 though

Thanks jlmurph!

because Titanfall is a system seller. MS fans wanted to play it. FFXIV not

I bought this up a few months ago in the PS Nation thread.

I guess it's due to the fact that it's the last platform to receive the game and it's not as popular as an online FPS. It's still a great game though, with plenty of subscribers, that deserves more attention on PS4 as the definitive console MMO.

It most certainly deserves as much credit as Titanfall when comparing the PS4 and XB1's "exclusives".

Because it was available earlier, because it has a subscription fee, because it's an MMO, because it didn't have billion dollar advertisements and declared game of the year before it came out, because the original was a flop, because other excuses.

Despite the fact the game is a huge success and has helped (temporarily) pull Squeenix from the ocean of red ink it was drowning in. Last I checked, 2 million players and counting...

I would definitely agree if we were talking specifically about the 2010 version of FFXIV. The FFXIV of 2010 and the FFXIV of 2014 are two very different beasts though, and the game has carved out a pretty sizable userbase for itself.

That said, its still an MMO, so Titanfall absolutely has the potential to reach a wider audience than FFXIV.

You are talking about a franchise that is probably on a 20th iteration and you're still taking cheap shots at FPS market.

The RPG market is way oversaturated but probably you don't mind.
