everything was great. adding another dimension messed with the battle mode. not being on the same height as the opponent all the time is weird.

Agreed. I could spend hours playing Baloon Battle on those two games. Barely touched it in the more recent entries.

It would be really nice if they introduced a new battle mode as well.

Well, Nintendo has been doing many good things so far with MK8, so maybe they will add the MK64/MKDS battle mode!
