Forums - Sony Discussion - My estimated specs of the PlayStation 5

You are too conservative guys!

When X360 launched who would have thought the next generation would have:

- 16x increase of memory (remember X360 almost launched with 256MB, exactly like PS4 with 4GB)
- 8x increase of bandwidth
- ~8x increase of GPU tflops (and the new tflops are always better than the old because of better technology etc.)

Also the X360 specs were considered "beasty" when PS4 specs are considered "good" or "decent" by most.

kind of accurate, according to moore law.

samsung is starting to produce graphene in higher scale, lets see if a it is affordable a computer system tecnology with it until then.

 PS3 was ~300-400, PS4 is 1.95TFLOP so 5x increase

First off, the PS4 has 1.84 TFlops of GPU compute power, secondly, the PS3 only has a GPU with 228 Gflops (0.0228 Tflops), so the PS4's GPU is actually an x8 increase over the PS3.

Also, what is sort of funny is the fact that the PS4's CPU, while being much simpler to program for, is actually less powerfull than the PS3's Cell Processor.

It really makes sense that the cpu is not as good, because a large part of the cell power is used for graphic/physic. Doing so much on the PS3 CPU was already outdated and proved to not be so efficient (compared to the better gpu they could have afford with a simple cpu). I don't blame them for this failure because it's quite a noble action to try and invest so much money and time in a new custom hardware designs to create an impressive gap. Some people even say that Sony first designs didn't even have a proper gpu. By the way TFlop has always been a terrible measure of comparison between different architectures.

I can't predict the power of the next generation, but if the next gen come earlier, it will be very difficult to provide a power gap with a 400$ product, based on PC architecture, and without a massive loss.

i predict

4000 bit console
100gb DDR6 ram
new ultra sonic BLuray
5TB HDD easily
CPU should be a good one 32 core mabey?

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

15 TFLOPS GPU is what should be expected around 2018 at the same price level as PS4's GPU today. Unfortunately, industry has hit sort of a wall with 28nm, so I'm bit skeptical about 9th generation.

As said before 64gb ram is already done by pc enthousiasts
and the +- 10 TF is less then the newest amd monster

EDIT CALLING IT : PS5 will have no HDD or SSD, games will be stored in server structure

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

I think most people are completely unware of any of this.

All I'm saying is that technologically and financially, the pace of future hardware progress is in doubt.

Yeah i know I agree with you .

Yeah I know, I'm using combined GPU+CPU flops.

Ok, that makes more sense.

I'm really interested to see what the role of the CPU will be in the next consoles as CPUs are slowly becomming more and more irrelevent with GPU compute.

I'm sure they will still have one, but I just can't help but feel like a big hw breakthrough with new teck may be just around the corner.

Interesting proposition but no, ps5 will still be a global product. And starting a gen 9 game over an internet connection will produce mega loading times even at 100 mbps. A 5400 rpm drive can already do 6x that, why not use a hdd?
Plus you get the horror of random access (seek) times over the internet.
