What makes you think that? I'm not saying you are wrong, but I am saying that you are 100% in tune with one of the strangest psychological phenomena of human beings; "the end is near" syndrome. Christians always think Jesus is just about to arrive on the clouds, and the console market is always about to shrink.

Do you have ANY reasoning, data or anything at all to back that up with?

The PS4 AND X1 are outselling every other console ever. That's what I have to back my statements up with.

Speak up.

before last gen systems were far more reliable, just think how many people are on their 3rd or 4th ps3/x360. i think within the main markets the amount of gamers is shrinking..

but if you add emerging markets to the mix, i think the potential for WW sales can grow

People forget about the ouya, steam box, the nvidia console all those will sale ten's of consoles

They should be included of course, but I think it's better that we keep everyone's panties untwisted ;)

Wii U: 30 million

XBONE: 60 million

PS4: 200 million

That looks like growth to me.

@ktay

LOL. I'm glad you acknowledge that it's BS!

People always say this when a generation is coming to a close, because sales are going down and somehow this is not to be expected with old products. It's really dumb and not worth mentioning.

Yeah, they are talking about Gen 8, but that's mostly because Nintendo artificially expanded the 7th Gen market and then put out the Wii U which failed completely to pick up were the Wii left. PS4 and X1 are still ahead of their last gen counterparts.

Which basically means that the seventh generation would have already seen a contraction, if it hadn't been for Nintendo.

Looking at it another way: If Sony didn't fuck up so hard and actually built the PS3 out of components that could be sold for much cheaper later on (ala the PS2), then there'd have been a $129 PS3 on the market (for one year longer!) and how do you think that would've sold!?

So you can make contextual arguments all you like, but that doesn't help you when the figures don't agree with you. The PS4 and X1 will be cheap as chips to produce in 3or4 years from now. Think about it.

I think that the actual gaming market will remain mostly the same. The Wii really inflated gen 7's numbers. And the PS2 inflated a little bit of gen 6 numbers as well.
But the 80 million each of the PS360 aren't going anywhere. I have a hard time believing that 150-160 million people just ditched consoles to play Flappy Bird on their smartphones/tablets, which are totally killing videogames.

This thread is pure gold.

@OP
What's your prediction about the console distribution? At which constellation will they reach at least 270million?

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

PS4 and X1 are outselling the PS3 and 360 cause last gen was the longest gen ever and people were dying for next gen consoles for so long, when the finally came out people went out buying them all at once.  Now for this gen I think we can all agree Wii U won't reach anywhere near Wii numbers, it might be around Gamecube numbers if Nintendo can turn things around.  Also this gen since PS4 and X1 both require people to pay for online more people are just gonna stick with one console instead of getting both.  I think we can agree PS4 will outsell PS3.  As far as the X1 goes, it has no chance in most of Europe and Japan and its losing a large part of its market share in the main places it sells, the US and UK, so its most likely that its not gonna sell as well as the 360.

Taking all this into consideration we have Wii U at 22m (that's being generous, since its way below GC levels at the same point in time), X1 at roughly 60m I'd say, and even if PS4 manages to reach PS2 numbers, which I doubt it will, that leaves it at 158m.  That gives 240m as the best case scenary imo.
