Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Major Nelson: 'PS4 vs X1 a marathon, not a sprint, we know what we have to do'

"We know what we have to do ;)"

I like that, and I really hope they DO know what they need to do, because this E3 is gonna be make or break for them.

I can't wait for the truth to come out.

I think that was Albert Penello

I think it was both really. Major said something like  that he is looking forward to the next months as the truth comes out.

It doesn't matter anyway, he is right that it is a marathon not a sprint.

Thanks for educating me. The question is, will MS still get the 3rd party games that are important?  If they still get 3rd party and a bunch of exclusives it will still be an interesting gaming machine if the price is right. Sadly PS4 will dominate, yes, but this doesn't mean Xbone will be a bad decision and that it will be a financial disaster for MS.

I'm pretty sure there is no return at this point in europe (unless they have a massive price cut). Remember when the PS3 came one year after the 360 and over priced? Well, thats what is happening in the remaining markets MS didnt launch on. Except maybe a bit worse as the PS4 is selling and gaining shelf space at a crazy pace.

Yes, PS4 is feeding us because the last gen lasted way too long and gamers want something new. That said with the current games it's surprising both systems are selling that good, in my opinion. But it also shows that console gaming is still relevant and important, they are not losing against mobile gaming.

Good luck beating the best marathon finisher among them. lol

Sony hasn't even brought out their biggest. guns yet. InFamous is just a taste of it and it help fell a titan. haha

This is pretty good. I'm sure it's been talked over and approved but it still feels like a genuine thing to say. People like when it feels as though you're being honest with them and not talking down to them.

I also know the "all about games" direction they've switched to is mostly PR talk, as there hasn't actually been time enough to change anything, but I do wonder if Microsoft is serious enough to keep buying third-party exclusives. Titanfall makes me believe that EA is out there trying to sell exclusivity to the highest bidder, for one, and I doubt they'd be alone. If Microsoft doesn't mind spending a ton of money then there could be some major surprises in the works.

Finally some good PR out of Microsoft. That's the attitude I like, acknowledging the success of others and vowing to do all they can to stay competitive. In the end, it's better for gamers if both companies have to put up their A game to stay ahead.

That's you on the pic ?

Sadly, no. I'm beautiful but not THAT beautiful.

Auw, I'm disappointed... Very :'/

Original Xbox and the 360 were weakest in the latter parts of their respective gens. Is this small statement meant to make me believe that they're going to change this time around?

I don't buy it.

That's right, in a long term Xbox will be better. Microsoft loves long term support! just like the X360 :O

Sony just dropped all support for the ps2, and that came out 14 years ago...

Sony has the advantage in the long game.

That's why the only way to beat them is to gap them early and force them to catch up. If the gap is in PS4's favor well, unless PlayStation trips and sprains its ankle, no wai.

The issue is Microsoft have never shown themselves to be greater marathon runners. They did so well last generation in a sprint mentality. It was since 2011 when it became a marathon they really saw their global lead on PS3 shrink. Sony has that global brand and foot print to be able to sell at tiers giving them long legs.

I will say the US is still very much up for grabs, but it is almost impossible to see the global difference do anything but widen in the coming years.
