Of course the high end PC graphics will have the edge, and the consoles will soon be outmatched by and average pc in a few years as well but this doesn't change the fact that the vast majority of the TV sets out there is and will be 1080p (or lower) at 60 hertz, which is the ceiling for consoles for a long time. Given all that and the increased budgets of games and various other reasons, I see this generation (at least in PS4 terms) to be a long one, possibly even longer than the 7th gen). |
Its possible. I am playing Hitman Absolution (free with Gold) on my Xbox 360 lately. Game looks fine to me. The new systems, likewise. The problem most people on this board will have is that most people just want to play great games. They don't drool over blades of grass and brick textures 24/7.
These systems might be around for a while.

I need to make a few "edit"s...

Also, If I were in the shoes of Sony and MS, I wouldn't simply abandon the 7th Generation any time soon (pretty much what Sony did with PS2), but continue to support it, well into the late periods. They have a huge user base out there, and you may keep the platform as a cheaper solution, while making the games available for a lower price (in a few years) than their next gen versions both and give an upgrade path to those who finally migrate to the 8th gen system.
The graphics jump is still substantial but the 7th generation has been quite impressive and sufficient unless you compare it to the next gen consoles or high end PCs. They should be around untill they feel antiquated (basically like PS2 feels now).
