Forums - Gaming Discussion - Sega’s failed Dreamcast outsold Nintendo’s Wii U

Don't we have a rule about not shooting the messenger now? That's almost the entire thread now, lol.

And we all know what is the cause of that!

Knack! The mario killer!

Dreamcast first released in Japan on November 1998, not 1999. Three years of amazing games for an amazing system. Long live the Dreamcast.

Wii U will probably overtake Dreamcast sales by the end of this year, but I think the system will be practically dead in some point of 2016. After two Mario games, one Pikmin, one Zelda remake, one Donkey Kong Country and other titles like The Wonderful 101, the system is still weak in every monthly sale. Mario Kart 8 and the new Smash Bros are the only two hopes for Wii U. I think X and Bayonetta 2 will not sold too much outside Japan.

Did Dreamcast have Mario Kart 8, Zelda and SSB4 to be released yet after the same period?

This is funny. DreamCast died because they didnt have popular titles or innovation to keep Sega going. That is like if PS4 would suddenly think they dont need 3rd Party Support and tried to have God of War, The Show, Gran Turismo, and few others carry the system Plus over advertising in America pre DreamCast gave away any surplus made off of the Genesis. Remember "SEGA Does what Nintendon't". Maybe people should read history first before they post

Why are people unhappy with the thread? It's facts being discussed not opinions. Do you people disagree with facts now?

It's not that strict when Nintendo is the subject.

But that is the WiiU situation right now, isn't? It doesn't have third party support(which means a lot of popular titles) and don't have a innovation(at least a popular/well received one) and nintendo are trying to carry the console with exclusives like mario, zelda, donkey kong,etc...

How much did the Xbox 360, PS3 and Xbox(first) manage to sell on the same timeframe?

I remember the Xbox 360 had a 7-8 million lead after its first year. The PS3 and Xbox I don't remember, but the PS3 sold about the same as Xbox 360 I think?
