Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Does it make sense for Microsoft to ditch Kinect?

If they want any chance to win 8th gen yes. They could sell Xbox One with a game for 375 without it, that may give a small chance...

The generation is far from over :).

If MS does offer a Kinect-less SKU then that means there will be about 800k unsold Kinects sitting around.

This doesn't make sense.

Is Microsoft going to open the already shipped X1 boxes and take the kinect out?

Yeah they could still have a kinect bundle. I'm sure there are people that still want kinect.

Well the only way I would consider picking up an xb1 is if microsoft released an option without the kinect. For me the price point was never a problem, it was being forced into a peripheral I had absolutely no interest in.

The issue for microsoft right now, I imagine, is how much they have invested in the kinect, right now they may have just put too much into it to drop it now, but if things continue as they are then ms is going to have to make a tough decision.

They invested to much money to drop it.

CPU: Ryzen 7950X
GPU: MSI 4090 SUPRIM X 24G
Motherboard: MSI MEG X670E GODLIKE
RAM: CORSAIR DOMINATOR PLATINUM 32GB DDR5
SSD: Kingston FURY Renegade 4TB
Gaming Console: PLAYSTATION 5

Not being #1 does not equal failure. Not being the Wii last generation didn't equal absolute failure.

I like the Kinect. I bought the Xbox One in part because of it. Xbox One will almost certainly never be the number one console this generation. That's fine.

I find it funny that some people actually claim that they don't mind the price, but won't buy it just because you get a peripheral that you don't have to use :).

Yeah, I don't understand the whole argument either. Let's say you don't want to ever use your Cell Phone's built in barometer - do you really just stick with a cheap tracphone because you don't want to be 'forced into buying a barometer you don't need in a smartphone?'

The problem is that some people don't like to talk to their tv, and as long as it is included it's an easy crutch not to make an efficient UI for controllers. It's more likely to get a UI that's easier to navigate without Kinect when a Kinect less SKU comes out. Plus less likely to get more features that require Kinect, like xbox record that.
