Forums - Sales Discussion - Microsoft: More than 5 million Xbox One units shipped

The X1 is really doing well. It's just the PS4 is doing amazing.

Let's not forget that Sony had originally forecast 5 million units shipped for the PS4 at this point in time. They've just exceeded all expectations.

Xbox one is doing great despite the competition being cheaper and out in alot more countries.

No no no the whole sony is in more countries bs argument is over.  Microsoft made a business choice (cause they cant sell stock in those other countries) with plenty of stock to not ship to those countries including japan.  Which they are waiting a year past the american/european launch to set up.  Which proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that they arent confident in their ability to compete one on one with sony in said countries, and given recent npd data in which they cant even win america with a major AAA title in titanfall on top of a price drop they are right to be concerned.  Face it this battle is all over but the celebrating.

I'm impressed at how much inventory retailers are willing to take. Its a bit of a risk. I wonder how microsoft convinces them.

One fans are spending an average of five hours per day on Xbox One

God dam that's a lot.

Not to take anything away from the (very good) Xbox sales reported in the OP...

I have to ask: How many of those 5 hours is actually spent playing games? Because as we all know - it gets used for media stuff a lot. People watch a lot of TV, Skype, etc.

Damn, I almost forgot about its other functions. I was about to run off proclaiming that Xbox One users have no lives!

I call bullshit on the 5 hours a day. Since some consoles aren't even turned on everyday they must mean for every console that connects online it is 5 hours average but that is still way too high of a number. Surely most people only get to spend an hour a day playing games. Then that would mean the rest are playing a ridiculous amount of hours a day. Even 5 hours a day on average is a bit too much to be playing every day.

I'd say my PS4 has an average of under an hour played each day. I just can't wrap my head around 5 hours for a whole install base. Even taking 4.2 million people playing 5 hours a day for 90 days will equal to 1.89 billion hours. Which is almost double the figure they give so that doesn't add up.

I was gonna write a mean letter to VGC until I realized that these numbers are shipped and not sold. VGC numbers could quite possibly be very accurate. Heck, I'm still seeing quite a few XBOX ONE on shelves and not many PS4.

So in the grand scheme its really only 2 million behind (for now). You'd think with how PS4 has been selling the gap should be alot more.

Introduce a $350 kinectless SKU, keep pushing the bundles, Japan console decline/China wildcard, and offcourse the September launch in a couple dozen countries. Still anybodies game. MS just has to act fast and lose the last Don Mattrick legacy product.

Sony is 7M sold

MS is 5M shipped.

The gap is wider than you think.

Price and being out in more countries are the 2 big main reasons why the ps4 is selling more over the competition. That is a hard fact regardless of how you try to spin it.

Any country can make a difference. Size doesn't matter in some cases. I am sure all those countries would have brought the sales up.
