In a way I am jealous. I am jealous that a corporation is willing to sell their assets just to afford their fans the continued privilege to brag on the internet.

Offcourse that isn't their concern but a nice side-bonus for fans regardless.

i agree it is a delicious bonus playstation is outselling xbox in america who would have thought it after the 360 sales, sony being in massive debt too

Um.....everyone since E3 2013? lol its doing great on its own steam, but we aren't blind to market conditions.

Wow those movie profit margins are so low. I wish Sony would sell Spiderman to Marvel.

Only if you don't include DVD- and Blu-ray revenue, merchandising deals and licensing deals to Netflix, iTunes, Amazon and many international TV bradcasters.

Add that to the boxoffice-revenue and the profit margins explode.

Ah that makes sense. But last year when Sony was announcing their quarterly results, the experts said that this quarter was profitabe because it was helped a lot by Skyfall. Skyfall was just released, so it couldn't have already been making money from DVD and TV deals.

Next sale, Spiderman.

Marvel would have to pay a few billion dollars for that

Hardly.

but they could perhaps cross license and make some cash from marvel so that the character can appear in marvel movies too?

Why hardly? That's what the movie license is worth. Sony should be making around 800m off it per year directly once they start milkinging it like they plan to.

I wouldn't be against them cross-licensing Spider-Man

Marvel is actually in the process of trying to do just that. They were also attempting to do the same with X-Men but Fox doesn't seem to be interested. As a fan that would be great to see so much continuity. Also if Sony fails to make a new Spiderman movie within a certain amount of time the license automatically returns to Marvel.

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

Because one movie franchise isnt worth a fifth of the entire value of Sony, that why.

$800m... revenue or do you actually think they will make $800m profit annually from Spiderman?

They make little profit from Spiderman movies at the cinema, do some research.

The money is made post cinema, in blu ray/dvd/streaming and TV deals... the margin here is diminishing rapidly.

Metric Avg. Spider-Man Movie Avg. Marvel Cinematic Universe Movie

Domestic gross

$343.96 million

$295.16 million

International gross

$468.14 million

$413.04 million

Production budget

$206.75 million

$171.25 million

Estimated box office break-even

$827.0 million

$685.0 million

Avg. box office gross profit

I figured they made quite a bit on it. I don't know how accurate Wikipedia is, but it says the budget for Amazing Spiderman 1 was 230M, and it made 750M box office. That's not even including the blu ray/dvd sales which, as you say, is where most of the money is made.

Amazing Spiderman 2 has an even smaller budget, at 200M and will most likely make around 500M. Not as much as the first one, it's not being reviewed as well.

I don't know how Kowen got the extra costs, but I will say this. Production Budget typically is only half of the total cost for almost all movies. On top of which, I don't know the share that theatre rakes in from the sales either.

What I don't know is how this thread about Sony selling it's Square Enix sales turned into a thread about Spiderman lol

I think someone said, next item up for sale Spider-Man. Which is a possibility. Disney would love to regain that and X-men.

Not as bad as PS2 vs Xbox sold in US compared to 360 vs PS3. Again, market conditions.
