Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Xbox One Expected to Sell 100k in China, release in July

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't China PC country? Consoles are going to have to be much cheaper there to have an impact, while at the same time having to deal with both piracy and knock offs.
Whats really puzzling is those here talking about cultural relations and government intervention. Not to mention the Chinese government was responsible for instituting the ban in the first place, why would they now help the big 3 officially?

In the western world I bet as much as 15% are interested in gaming so china could be huge

For reference

Europe - 740 million - 34 million Wiis, 33 million PS3s, 25 million 360s - 92 million consoles or 12%

North America - 528 million - 46 million 360s, 45 million Wiis, 28 million PS3s - 119 million or 22%

Japan - 127 million - 13 million Wiis, 10 million PS3s, 2 million 360s - 25 million or 19%

Rest of the World - 5,605 million - 11 million PS3s, 9 million Wiis, 8 million 360s - 28 million or .004%

Now, we know why this is largely due to socio-economic factors in many countries. China is definitely the sleeping giant of the industry by sheer scale alone if a few percent are able to buy it that is 300 million with the financial means. Of those if 10% follow through that is a huge leap and accomplihment.  I actually think Microsoft is smart here to make games less to try to break in the market as plenty of potential. Of course there is risk as no one as far as I can tell has had significant success in that market.

rolls eyes. You xbox guys are weird, man. Really effin weird.

Guy makes jab at playstation fanbase and "hypocrisy". Has a sig that is basically verbatim of his own post. Wildly backpedals into saying that he was genuinely wondering why people weren't happy for the Chinese, which is utterly absurd given that not a single person said otherwise. Downplays that any of it had to do with playstation. Gets called out on it. Disappears. Other xbox fans come in and say, "yeah he wasn't talking shit at all, it's perfectly acceptable". Next step is all xbox fans abandon thread.

It's freaky how this happens every single time. It's like some kind of weird brotherhood.

Number 34, you are out of line, back to your place!
But sir, I saw an-
You will not act without prior approval, officer, is that clear?
YES SIR!
Number 12, take 35 and go clean up 34's mess, and don't forget to call out everyone on being offtopic if they respond. 34 You are to make sandwiches until noon!
In unison, saluting, "-SAUCE!"

China's market will be fun to watch - with 1.3 billion people, even less than 1% adoption makes very relevant numbers.

So it'll sell more than Japan?

Didnt Nintendo sell the DS in China? How well did that end up doing (not sarcasm, I really have no clue)?
Anyway, I'm very interested in seeing how this plays out for MS and the game market as a whole. It could be a failure or could make this Gen bigger than 7 (though doubtful).
But with China having so many knock off products and PC dominant I wonder how an official console will fare.

A new Xbox One game will retail for around 300 RMB - equivalent to $48 - but the joint venture would create content for a variety of business models.

$48 hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

The average game is a pirated copy and costs around $2. Good luck Microsoft. There are two reasons there is almost no PS4/PS3 market in China (both are readily available in China). One is the high price of the consoles, the other one is pretty obvious.

it's not a terrible idea to do business in china but i hate doing business in china.  at my last company we worked with a chinese partner for 2 years only to find out they took that 2 years to reverse engineer our software and make their own version of it.  after all the investment we make $0 in return.

at my current company we've actually made a few bucks but we have to apply to the chinese government to allow us to move those funds from china to the US and the process is long, difficult, and can be reject for no real reason.

i honestly hope MS can take china for all the money it can.  i really fucking hate doing  business there.  it is a miserable system set up to intentionally fuck over foreign parties.  but i would be elated to see MS sell millions of console in china if for no other reason than to know that billions are being pulled out of china's broken system.

Are those expectation based on pre-order because i doubt it will sell that much

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m
