Forums - Gaming Discussion - Can someone explain FF XIV to me?

Tagged games:

I've played about 1100 hours or so since launch, so i'd certainly say it's good :p

I'd recommend getting the PS3 version cheap (you can find it for like $10 - 15) and then just upgrading it to the PS4 version for free. That will give you a month to try it out and see how you go :) The first few hours are definitely the most boring, but it gets progressively more fun as you go along and hits it's prime once you reach lv.50.

I can give you a brief overview of everything there is to do if you like, but i'd need a bit of time to type it out :P

I will explain it for you: it is boring.

My grammar errors are justified by the fact that I am a brazilian living in Brazil. I am also very stupid.

Ok off topic but...Why the hell are they making games where you have to pay an initial price for it and then on top of that a monthly subscription? ESO and now this game? WTF!!!

Off topic x2... The last game i wanted to do that for was Phantasy Star Online on Dreamcast. Such a underrated game. I couldnt because my dad wouldnt loan me his damn credit card. Selfish ass lol. Hell every thing i thought was cool required my dads CC info. I wanted to hear what Hulk Hogan had to say to us kids over the phone damn it!!!

This is  very common with mmos.

OT final fantasy 14 arr is one of the best mmos I've played and you get you moneys worth for sure. The crafting system is top notch compared to other mmos and the game has this unique feature where you can change the class of you character simply buy changing your job stone (once you obtain the level requirement of course) this keeeps all your playtime on one character and prevents you from having to start a new one.

Is it worth it? I mean the initial $39.99 then the $12.99 per month. I would gladly pay it if it is. But I haven't played a FF game before. How are the combat and classes?

I plan to get it on PS4 by the way.

Totally worth it. It doesn't matter if you never played a FF game before since they don't relate to each other except for direct sequels, like FFX and FFX-2, FFXIII, and FFXIII-2. Although, the names and the look of some monsters do stay the same throughout the series.

Visit my thread. Its full of youtube videos showing off combat, and contents. http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=145816&page=1#

By the way, here is a list of all the combat classes, none combat classes, and jobs you can unlock in FFXIV.

Also this is not a final list, more classes and jobs will be unlocked with future patches and expansions. I believe Patch 2.3 will bring Ninja, and Samurai.

Combat Classes: Archers, Lancers, Conjurers, Thaumaturges, Pugilists, Gladiators, Arcanists, Marauders.

Jobs: Bard, Dragoon, White Mage, Black Mage, Monk, Paladin, Scholar, Warriors, Summoner

None Combat classes. Gatherers and Crafters

Leatherworkers

Carpenters

Botanists

Goldsmiths

Alchemists

Miners

Weavers

Armorers

Blacksmiths

Culinarians

Fishers

If you have never played a FF game, I highly recommend playing one of the classics first. Everyone will recommend something different to you, but I think you should play at least one of them before jumping to the modern games.

The game is awesome, much better than 13, it reminds me of FF12.

It's almost as if the subscription model is new.

Who knew!?

What other games do this?

...World of Warcraft.

Also games like Rift, Aion, & Star Wars: The Old Republic when they first released. That's the way most MMOs are.

I'm not just talking about a subscription model...I'm saying games that make you pay full price 60$ and then on top of that add a subscription model. Like Elder Scrolls Online.

Yeah, that's exactly what I was responding to.
