You dont seem to follow, price of the IMMEDIATE purchase, is not an issue, thus the more expensive PS4 makes more sense - so if you decide, somewhere down the line you want to own both, you only need to buy the cheaper of the two.

Lol that makes zero sense.  History tells us the consoles will get price cuts broadly within the same six month period as each other for the next five years.

This is like getting a great deal on a house you can easily afford, and then saying 'here is an extra $50k, because I have it and am in a good mood.'

Just because he has extra cash doesn't mean he should spend more than he has too.  From a gaming perspective he made clear long ago the X1 has more to offer him...

He isnt the one spending the cash, someone else is buying one for him.

And history tells us the more popular something is the less reason they have to drop the price, where as the less popular, the faster the price comes down.

These things are not mutually exclusive.  In the console business costs are cut, one company cuts, and any company offering a similar product cuts not too much later.  The last two gens are a great example.  This only starts to fail at the very end of a cycle (as seen recently).  In other words, 5-7 years from now.

I wouldn't have him waste his associate's money either.  Quite aside from the fact that as it is clear which system best meets his gaming needs, he would be best equipped to be gaming for the next several years if he owned that system.

Lets not beat around the bush here, my suggestion is basically neither, as for who spends the money and how much, it isnt up to me to make his moral choices, personally if someone offered to buy me a console i wouldnt accept unless i was already planning to buy them something as costly in the near future too.

so with that in mind:

Go for the X1. You already listed several games you wanted for the X1 compared to the PS4. It'd be kind of stupid to buy a console just for 1 game, and have to wait for awhile until others are released.

if saying openly that neither one is worthwhile, but saying if he has to choose and has no morality over how much money other people spends, go for the one least likely to drop significantly in price, is vigourously advocating, then i dont even know what to say to you.

"Both those cars are shit, but if someday you plan on owning both the mazda is going to cost you less in the future", is hardly, "oh my god you HAVE to buy the nissan"

That's not what I got from his comment. Since the OP is definitely going to buy one of the two, he is recommending buying the PS4 because in the near future the X1 will incur price drops that will ultimately make it cheaper than the PS4, thus giving him the most savings from buying both next gen consoles.
