How can you back your words? Do you have a source?
Because Pirlo is older and have more time to be know, playing for the second best winning country team of the world, Italy.
I really can't see Rooney being more famous than Pirlo, I mean, today? Sure. But overral, never.

Never, ever heard of Pirlo. I don't follow sports at all (prefer playing them instead), but I know of Rooney and don't like him at all. Wasn't he in the cover of Fifa recently? I've heard of tons of other footballers, but never of Pirlo :S

He's a really good player with a good record, but he has never been a superstar like Rooney. I don't expect non football fans except maybe Italians to know him.
