Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Stardock CEO - DirectX 12 to end Xbox One Resolution Woes

So, it's like only using one core out of 8, which means that when it's using all 8 it will somehow outperform a better processor?

He wasnt comparing XBO and PS4.  Though you are.

He just said it should fix the resolution issues which most of us expect by this point.

Too bad the first DX12 games are expected to release no earlier than 18 months from now.

And by that time devs will get the hang of the PS4 hardware better..

I was just pointing out one example of randomness where he doesnt know...., there are others, was eating lunch so couldnt be arsed to copy/paste format them...lol.

What I am saying is that in his own tweets he is just re-iterating what he has been *told* by MS.... he doesnt know.

Perhaps I am just sick of the "Secret Sauce" stuff that people seem to be hungry for to help them believe their machine will suddenly become much more powerful. The games will improve, it will take time...

Making an indie game : Dead of Day!

Some of these reactions hurt my brain. anyway... Going from 1 towards8 increase performance we dont know by homuch. Would explain why some of the newer games aren't 1080p yet. the skd that will deliver 12 is gonna be interesting will be before dx12 be delivered anywhere else if no bs

I dont think anybody is talking about secret sauce either.  Theoretically speaking DX12 should imrpove xbox one and pc through optimazations and better tools.  THat isnt a secret sauce (Hate that term), that is something that is expected.

How much it improves XBO or how little will have to wait, but i do believe most people looking at it objectively are expecting enough improvement to get to 1080p with most games (Or games that shouldve been 1080p released so far)

First we heard the new dev kits would fix the 1080p problem, now it's DX12 that will fix the 1080p problem....this is just getting ridiculous. MS just needs to let the resolution thing go and stop talking about graphics. I feel like at this point they are just doing more harm than good. If they never end up getting this fixed the damage they do to their reputation will be even worse.

I'm starting to wonder how he knows all this stuff about the Xbox One. Stardock working on an Xbox One game maybe?

I think he must be working with Microsoft on something, he has not mentioned any other system, but he has X1 multiple times

I think once MS found out he is a good tool he gets spoon-fed with pr. This guy obviously doesn't know jack about the hardware he is talking about and makes a total fool out of himself. Instead of just taking a time-out and rethinking his "100% or more performance boost" tweets, he does the worst thing one could do: he just adds more and more nonsense by the minute. He will be the laughing stock once all those "100% more games" start appearing - and show maybe a 10-15% performance increase due to better sdks and better understanding of the hardware.

This is from the same guy who said DirectX 12 could double X1 performance

DirectX 12 for Xbox One will make it easier for developers to run games in higher resolutions and with more detail, Stardock founder and CEO Brad Wardell has said.

Posting on Twitter, Wardell wrote: "One way to look at the XBox One with DirectX 11 is it has 8 cores but only 1 of them does dx work. With dx12, all 8 do."

Another Twitter user argues that Xbox One already does this, but Wardell says this isn't the case.

"I'm sorry but you're totally wrong on that front," he responded before adding, "XBO is very low on overhead. Overhead is not the problem. It is that the XBO isn't splitting DX tasks across the 8 cores."

Asked on Twitter how DX12 will benefit Xbox One games, Wardell replied: "I think it'll make it easier to have games run at higher resolution and have more objects on screen at once."

Make it easier, see, depending what a specific game is doing it will be true, it could even be extremely helpful in many cases, but some scenarios may not benefit much from this approach (the CPU cores may already be used for many other tasks in some cases, or the memory bandwidth may be the problem in others... so on and so forth).

However a more interesting question would be: will we ever see something like Infamous:SS with the crazy particles, amazing draw distances, and superb AA @ 1080p above 30fps on the xbox one, all at the SAME time? I seriously doubt it.

Great. Now all 8 cores have to wait until the slow GPU is finished with its work.
Progress!
