Forums - Gaming Discussion - How do you feel about game prices?

How conservative are you when it comes to buying games at full price?

Are there different types of games you willingly pay more for?

This is a thread just to talk about how much you spend on certain games and if you think they are too expensive in general.

i'll give my opinion in the post below.

I used to buy games at full price or just get them as gifts when I was younger. Now that I'm a bit older, I am much more careful when choosing which games to buy and how much they cost.

Today games are generally $60 at launch. I think that's too high for a single player game with just a story mode unless the game is 30+ hours long. I normally wait for a price drop with this type of game. For example, Super Mario 3D World only has a story mode. While it's multiplayer, it's still story only so I traded in some games and got the price down to $15.

Yet, with Pikmin 3 I paid full price. I knew I'd play it multiple times eventually and that it had a mission mode for added value.

The type of game matters as well. For example, a multiplayer focused game like Mario Kart, Smash Bros, or LittleBigPlanet I have no issue paying full price for. A 3D platformer or Adventure game should be $50 and a 2D game should only be $40 or less in most cases for me.

Then you have HH games which I think should have a max price of $40 from the get go. Although, the majority should be priced at $30 IMO.

Games are often a bit more expensive than I'd like, but not outrageously so. I'd prefer if prices started lower ($50 standard for Retail Console games instead of $60 for example) even if we had less frequent price drops and short sales (aka Steam sales and the like), but the latter make it feasible to expand one's horizons, so there's pros and cons.

The only prices as of late that have really bothered me lately are some mobile game prices (mostly from Square Enix) and the upcoming Age of Mythology HD ($30 for a game over a decade old with minimal changes?!?!?).

On the flip side, I have to say kudos to Atlus for their 3DS eShop sales, which have been drastic and frequent. Also, Nintendo deserves some credit for pricing Tropical Freeze at a reasonable $50 and actually cutting the official price of some 3DS titles.

Love and tolerate.

I usually buy launch prices(which is now 70€ on PS4). That's because I usually only buy games that I'm really excited for and couldn't care less about price.

I don't think they are too expensive. They're luxury goods after all and are far from essential. There are so many free gaming alternatives so no one is forced to buy at high prices just to get his fix.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

I look at certain games that are 60$ and I know they're not worth 60 dollars ~_~. I feel like 90% of the games are worth 40$ and I feel a big reason gaming has kind of seen a hit in Japan is because of that price tag.

I hate the game prices in Canada atm... Its $5 more for virtually every game than the US... Its soo dumb and on top of that, there is 12% tax!!! Its like wtfffffffff

So unless a game is superbly fap worthy, I wont really buy it unless it goes on sale

They're a little too high in the US. I wish they were all $50 at the most. I guess companies think something like "Why should they pay $50 when they can pay only $10 more and we make even MORE money! Muahaha."

Some games here in Romania used to go up to 300 lei (~92$) at certain places, but recently I haven't seen many games that cost more than 200 lei (~61$)!

I hate that most third party games lose 70-80% of their value after a few months.
