Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Kinect Sports Rivals is a flop. What happened?

It opened at number 10 in the UK, that's pretty terrible considering it's an exclusive title on a console that just launched. Exclusive titles should be doing well this early in a console's lifecycle considering the software library isn't very large yet. Unless it has strong legs then the series will most likely face a massive decline.

Is this proof that Kinect is more of an OS machine rather than something to use for gaming? Is Microsoft finally going to let Rare work on non-Kinect stuff again? Will the sales be stronger in the US?

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

Thread seems a bit premature to be honest.

But yes Kinect is great for OS and being an entertainment hub, where im not fond of it being "the controller". Face scanning stuff is cool though. WOuld like to see that in stuff like THe Elder Scrolls or Mass Effect.

As for sales, i dont believe getting UK numbers only justifies making this thread yet, and i dont believe anybody expected it to sell millions on week one.  Ive said it on numerous occasions but it is one of those games that are meant for holidays and to have good legs.

On the other side of things i dont mind if it does actually flop long term, that way Rare will see it isnt what people want them to do.

First thing is first - Is this a parody thread?

If not, here is my serious answer.

Launching at 10 isnt bad for a party game on a machine as expensive as the Xbox One is, on a userbase of around ~500k. Even putting this into consideration, we really cant go around calling games flops when all the data we have is a chart position in one country.

Edit -

Also worth noting.

Kinect Sports: Season Two launched in 15th position in the UK - http://www.vgchartz.com/weekly/40846/UK/ - With a Week 1 of less than 8,500 units. It went on to sell almost 250,000 units here in the UK.

Hammers home the point that a game cant and shouldnt be called a flop after 1 Week in 1 Country.

The fad is dead! Long live the fad!

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

Do we need to talk about it?

Wasn't there an article recently where a guy from Rare said that working on Kinect games was entirely their choice?

Kinect will probably always be a Utility device more than a main game device. Also I believe that MS understand this and the controller is you will soon be replaced with devices that work with Kinect within games.

As for Kinect sports being a flop, would it not be best to wait awhile. The game may not be lighting up the charts but it might have decent legs where it consistently sell. Personally, I never thought the game was that big to begin with. Its also not a game I see defining what Kinect can and cannot do as its very focused on what has been done before.

Either way, if I get an X1, I probably will get Kinect Sports at some point since my son loved the first one.

2014 happened and motion gaming has been dead for years.

But these kind of games never put the world on fire from the start, they have long legs...

this thread is premature and just wont end well. maybe its just best to lock it now since thats whats most likely to happen anyways?
