Well, it depends on what you mean by "enthusiastic", I guess.

Enthusiastic meaning showing interest or joy, in this case in the prospect of playing a game/s. Something that you aren't showing enough of to the masterpieces that are the CD-i versions of the Zelda series.

Oh I know the definition. But since this is the internet, I wanted to be sure. Sadly, I never owned a CD-i. I know, it's awful for a gamer, but I was too afraid to be blown away by its superiority, y'know ("CD-i master race" and all) ?

Also, I can't run a CD-i emulator, my PC would just melt.

Just because you have an opinion doesn't mean you are necessarily right.

Do what I did - play Twilight Princess first. If you buy a Wii U you can get Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword for cheap and experience the great looking Wind Waker HD. I started off with Twilight Princess first and it got me a real taste for the franchise.

Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask are the most solid and satisfying Zelda experiences in my opinion. You can get Ocarina of Time on 3DS, they took out the blood and the Islamic stuff that were present in the N64 version, but it's still really good. It's easier than the original N64 version as well, but contains the Master Quest after (which is the hardest version of the game, and remixed from the original).

Another benefit to Ocarina of Time is that it is the definitive game of the series. It is the Final Fantasy 7, Mega Man 2, the Super Mario 3 of Zelda. Majora's Mask is like the Final Fantasy 8, less popular and different, but has a lot of fans that consider it the best.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Ocarina of time 3DS remake is best choice to start for people they didn't play any Zelda game.

To my mind the best 2 places to start with Zelda are Link Between Worlds and Wind Waker HD.

They're the most recent so they fit the modern gaming palate, they look fantastic so you don't have to squint past dodgy visuals to the game beyond, and they're both excellent games and good representations of the Zelda series.

From that point, OP can get an idea of which elements they enjoyed and go on from there.

Given that they own a 3DS, Worlds is probably the best place to start, until they have the cash for a Wii U.

except for Phant....AM I READING THIS RIGHT!?

Get Ocarina of Time for 3DS. Then, you will be able to call your pitiful existence "a life".

Add to that A Link to the Past for DS (actually GBA, but play it on a DS). Then you are good.
