Forums - Gaming Discussion - Move over XB/PC. Minecraft Pocket Edition sold over 21M copies.

Yup, that's right. At $6.99/copy they have shifted 21M copies of the title and counting.

LONG LIVE THE MASTER RACE!!

---------------------------------------

Minecraft Pocket Edition is now officially the biggest of them all and Mojang is celebrating with an "ask the devs (almost) anything" next week.

The Xbox 360 edition of Minecraft recently broke12 million units sold, a remarkable figure by any measure. The PC release is even bigger, moving past 14 million units in February. The PlayStation 3 version only broke a million in late January, but it wasn't released until December 2013, so that's fair. And yet the Minecraft Pocket Edition dwarfs them all, as developer Jens Bergenstein tweeted earlier today that it has now surpassed 21 million units sold.

To mark the occasion, Bergenstein, along with Minecraft Pocket Edition developers Johan Bernhardsson and Tommaso Checchi, will take part in a live broadcast from the Mojang office on Reddit.

"We're hoping to harness the collective power of our Pocket Edition players to submit questions to this reddit thread. Then we'll pick the best ones and put them to the team live on air," Mojang wrote. "This is all in celebration of hitting over 20m sales of Pocket Edition just a few days ago. We're extremely grateful to all players for your dedication and creativity. Without that, Minecraft wouldn't be anywhere near as significant as it is today."

The timing of the AM(A)A hasn't been locked down but a recording of the session will be uploaded after the fact.

Why don't we ever hear about the indies that find success like this expanding and making bigger budget games.

Turning into a good version as well, shame the controls are so shitty though

Why do they need to spends millions upon millions to make games? If it fails they run the risk of losing everything they worked so hard for.

Instead Notch decides to take extra cash (Like 3M in dividends) and give it all to his employees, which isn't many, so they all get paid good.

I say let him do what he does. No need to try and make a big budget, high marketing cost "AAA" title. No need for it.

Minecraft is low budget and is far superior to many titles available on any platform and has a kick ass modding community.

Is 12 million the total for Xbox or just digital? Because looking at NPD, Chart-Track and previous news from the developer, it looks like 12 million for just the digital copy. The total would be more than 15 million.

The number comes from the dev, so it might mean shipped + digital.

This is absolutely crazy! I do not understand how on earth people are actually getting gripped to this game? I personally find nothing interesting in it and the worst is obviously the graphics! I’d rather play a numbers game like Numbs: https://itunes.apple.com/app/id674456722 than have minecraft.net/pocket on my phone! Likewise, there are other great games on both the App Store and play.goole.com which I really enjoyed and it’s mostly due to their griping gameplay and fine graphics. However, there is no doubt that https://mojeng.com/ has been terribly smart and launching Minecraft on mobile was probably one of their best moves!

This game has so much sales and I still can't find it appealing.
