So The Big Bang Theory and South Park did their own versions of the console wars pitting Sony and Microsoft against each other. Though the WiiU was missing from the attractions. Now this is a sign of a bigger problem, that the WiiU isn't seen by many as a next gen console. I personally think it is a next gen console but public perception disagrees with me. Of course what does it matter if the WiiU wasn't on The Big Bang Theory? Who cares? Well it's free advertising. The Big Bang Theory is one of the most popular shows on television nearing 20m viewers an episode. Essentially, Sony and Microsoft just got a free 30 minute advertisement on one of the biggest shows on TV. That's a huge missed opportunity for Nintendo. Nintendo needs to make themselves seen as a direct competitor to Sony and Microsoft or else the public will never take them seriously.

Cause thats whats popular! I remember one ep of family guy where they did an ep of xbox 360 and cod and there were plently of ads in japan of haruhi and wii

Because even Nintendo thinks they don't belong into a gen. They do their own stuff, making games just for their system and their fans. If Nintendo doesn't care to appeal to everyone why should everyone care about them. They are their own gen now.

Why would a Wii controller have anthing to do with the Xbox One and PS4?

Because some gamers are dicks and don't realize good gameplay and stories can make a console next gen just as much as graphics can. I personally think the Wii U is doing a good job. Not as realistic as PS4, but who cares. I would like Zelda U running 1080p 60 fps though

The simple reason is because in most people's view the XBone's fate as far as being the winner or loser this gen for sales/importance is not written in stone (particularly if your focus is solely on the NA market) while the wiiU's is.

The counterpoint to my argument is that last generation there were console war debates that still ignored Nintendo, but I'm unsure if these kind of things showed up in other media to the degree we're talking about now so I don't think it's directly comparable.
