What a strange, strange thread.
While there are undoubtedly factors that would lead Japanese people to trade in their PS4's - the same goes for every console. Go and visit a CEX in the UK. You'll find a window full of any console you could possibly want from people trading them in.
Like Auron says, people trade in games literally a day or two after they've just released too.
It happens. There were loads of used 3DS' after launch, too:

and they realized any game played after that would feel like crap compared to Knack so they abandoned video games altogether.

I hate this site sometimes. When I reported that Wii Us were in stock in my area in the days and weeks after launch I was called a liar.

At no point in the Wii U's life, especially not less than two months after launch, did I see this many used Wii Us in stores.
Obviously, I think the PS4 will do better than the Wii U because it will have better support than the Wii U (Western and Japanese), but I still think that this trend raises valid questions and concerns.
Oh, and for your viewing pleasure, here are a few more photos from different stores than the ones above taken in the last few weeks in Tokyo and Osaka (I used these in a different thread a few days ago):
Happens with every console. When the Japanese support for the system comes eventually, then they will start to sell like crazy in my opinion...OR Japan really is moving towards a Handheld/Mobile market. I would not complain about that anyway considering that I love my Vita and all the Japanese games on it ^_^

Yeah, but I would have expected the Japanese gamers to be used to this, they usually get their consoles first with little to no games on them... I guess they really changed, moved on... we loved you japanese gamers with all your cool games that never got ported over... :-S (back in the 90s early 2000s)
They hype died, and they all bought Vitas instead.
You're Gonna Carry That Weight.
Xbox One - PS4 - Wii U - PC
you call this full of used PS4...?? i thought its something like at least few hundreds or thousands unit you found...
but then again if OP use Japan had a few used PS4 won't get much people attention here...

I'm sorry if you're offended, but it is ignorant to draw conclusions from used games and consoles. Living there, you know how good the trade-in prices are and know how often people return their game or console once they beat what they had with it. 24 consoles across a bunch stores in a populated area like Osaka means effectively nothing. Posting anecdotes about an area unknown to most of the forum generally will lead to misunderstanding, so again, I didn't want to personally insult you, but I don't think PS4 is domed like your OP suggests.
