After the massive success on kinect on xbox 360, i can understand why microsoft wanted kinect 2.0 to be a big part of the xbox one. but now, after the launch of the XB1, and the results of how both the PS4 and XB1 are performing, you gotta ask yourself, is kinect really worth it? Xbox has lost UK and USA to PlayStation, the two biggest markets for Xbox. but removing kinect could result in a price drop to 399$ or even 349$. which can drastically change the sales of the Xbox One.

is Kinect really that valuable? and why are Microsoft still hanging on to it? 

NSA sponsored device.. it's making MS millions with selling all that info... they know you don't wear pants while gaming...

Kinect included in XBO driving that cost up was my initial reason to not buy XBO at launch. Soon after launch, I learned there may be some other reasons (like 3rd party games now stronger on Playstation 4).

So now I will wait for MS to make some exclusives that I would be in to (not into military FPS with competitive online focus).

They rolled the dice and bet the house on it, cant take it back now.  It be a bitch and a half of neg pr if they cut it, one more uppercut to the chin self induced yet happily deliverd by sony.  They will get plenty hate if they cut if from those like me that were forced to pay for it.  Just another black eye and reason not to trust them.   While the cut would help, some of its effect would be negated by ms doing anothe flip flop.

Even at equal price PS4 still out sales it, X needs to cost less like 360 did. 

Because Kinnect is a hell of a sexy device. Wich other reason should it be ?

It's Xb one's only real selling point and point of difference to PS4 from a hardware perspective. TBH I think a kinectless sku would have to sell at $100 less than PS4 to really attract substantially better sales than it's getting right now.

Without Kinect, on an objective analysis, Xb one is inferior to PS4 in almost every way that's important for a gaming console. So the only thing MS has to compete with is Kinect or price or both.

Because money gained from sales of hardware isn't as important as money gained from selling personal data.

Too bad the games aren't as sexy as the Kinect!
