Forums - Politics Discussion - Democrat lawmaker calls Black Republican "half" black

This is dumb. Here in Africa black, white and mixed are considered 3 distinct races. Ive always found it strange how Obama is called black when his mother is clearly white, do black genes erase or overwrite the white ones or something? Its retarded, why doesn't anyone call Obama white? Only half of his genes apply? Seriously XD

There's no such thing as a "black gene."

People call Obama "black" because of his appearance, just like MOST people do.

If you want to go by "genes" that don't really exist, then no "black" person on the planet is "black" as no "white" person on the planet is "white" because these are just visual cues for discrimination.  There aren't just 2 or 3 shades of skin color.  There are many, and people of two similar skin colors can have children with skin colors that aren't the exact same as their own.

The reason why no one really calls Obama white is because most people have the tendency to call people the ethnicity that is more of a minority than any others they may have.

So really, there isn't anything "retarded" about this stuff.  What's "retarded" is acting like it matters to begin with.

OT:  There are so many things in here I would like to respond to, but at the same time I would rather not go down that route because these discussions rarely go well.

People will probably call you Asian if you
#1 Look Asian and have part Asian in you
and/or
#2 If Asian is the part in you that is the strongest minority "race" you could belong to

That's usually how it works when people want to identify you.  Does it make it correct?  Nope.

Or to put it anotherway.  Nobody walking down the street is just going to stop you and ask you for a genetic makeup comparison before they make preconceived notions about you and others.

It's not even about genes, and funny enough some people probably would do just that.  I know I am asked a good few times about my "ethnicity."  So many times I'm asked "what are you?"

Why do some people care so much about skin color?

This 100 times over.

So if my mother was from the middle east and my father from Aria what would I be?

I predict that the Wii U will sell a total of 18 million units in its lifetime.

The NX will be a 900p machine

Is it that hard to say my mother is X, my father is Y. You have to pick one. Like I said here mixed race people identify themselves as mixed race, and would probably get offended if you picked one ethnicity based on what they look like.`I think its silly to identify with one side of your family tree and distance ypurself from the other.
