Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony's 1st party multiplayer fail

The problem I have with MP games is I don't find it be that entertaining simply for the fact that many FPS games are similar in their mechanics, they don't distinguish themselves enough & that shit is hardly entertaining. At least for story driven games you get different plots that immerse you in different ways. Also I don't have time to connect with friends online to game as I have a busy schedule but of course I cannot speak for everyone.

Also re - reading the OP you said that Sony don't have games that attract a "mainstream" audience, I for one disagree, just look at the TLoU. Released right before the start of the 8th generation alongside the biggest franchise in gaming in GTA, still shipped 6 Million with more to come from additional PS4 sales. It's safe to say that this franchise will exceed 10 Million shipped with the possibility of 12 - 15 Million shipped best case scenario. If a sequel is being discussed or is in the works I think it would be able to attract a decent amount of consumers. Not to mention Uncharted & GoW will cause considerable bumps & GT7 would be like uncut crack for fiends in Europe with the dominance of the PS brand.

As a sony fan and a SP only player I am very happy with the type of games and quality on the playstation consoles. I would say that each of the 3 devs have their own identity and type of gamers they care to, and in the case of sony they like to experiment with different types of genres/IPs and basically try to cater to every niche. Its worked for them in the 7th gen, its working with the ps4 right now and I see no reason why it wont continue to work.

I mean, looking at Titanfall which you have mentioned above - it has sold very well but hasnt been the system seller as much as MS have been hoping. So I dont think your reasoning really holds much water.

Tastes are different.... In my opinion Sony offers a huge variety of genres: God of War, Uncharted, Resistance, Sly, InFamous, Ratchet & Clank, Heavenly Sword, Heavy Rain.

I personally dislike online multiplayer games. In my opinion they offer almost no fun at all. You only play the same old modes an almost every game feels like the same. In most games it would have been better if they dropped online gaming and they had concentrated on singleplayer instead.

An to be honest: couch-coop is so much more fun as online-coop. My wife enjoys gaming and often she sits besides me watching me playing with strangers on the internet instead of playing together with her. Couch-coop is one of the best features in gaming and it should gain much more focus again.

It's simple:

Sony invest on niche exclusives -> hipster reviewers give 10/10 -> Core gamers HAPPY -> Internet -> Word of mouth -> PS brand gets stronger -> Hardware sales boost -> Software sales boost ->Third parties make AAA mainstream blockbusters with exclusive content(batman, watch dogs,etc..) or full exclusive(Persona 5) -> Hardware boost->Software boost -> repeat 1.

Wow good thing Sony is the only company that invests in niche exculsives.

It's not what he's saying.

"I love Sony but imo in the long run xbox will catch up if Sony doesn't take its head out of its ass and innovate in multiplayer. I love single player but with the ps4 its been just that. Only sp games."

What okay let's put it like SP games vs MP games in this console race and I'm curious to know who'll lead the race this gen.

Dude...Sony is fine and the big games always come within a two year window. I would be more worried about Microsoft if I were you when it comes to being creative and coming out with new exclusives themselves.

I'd rather take creativity of MS than Sony.

And here I'll tell you why:

Halo has been the benchmark for most FPS since 2001, it always had great visuals but it's gameplay took precedence over anything else. Thus, it's multiplayer is one of the most played in the industry.

Gears have also been the benchmark for all the TPS with cover based mechanic. Self explanatory.

MS released tons of Arcade games for the last 3 years through 1st party and external studios partnership.

I don't think any fans of Xbox should be worried about games on Xbox, be it 1st or 3rd party.

I'm not easily impressed by cinematic experience. It's a wow thing for 5 minutes.

MS has created zero games that have become a phenomenon. I have no clue what creativity you speak of. Yes, I agree that they are better at Sony at acquring IP's.

I love Gears and Halo, but MS didn't create those games, they just own the IP to them. Every game MS has that I remotely like they've purchased. Gears, Halo and Rare titles. Everything I like about Sony they've made including partner games.

This.

"So where am I going at this?

Where is Sony's BIG Studio. And BIG Budget game."

I can't take anything you say seriously after this. Wow.
