Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony's 1st party multiplayer fail

Looking at my PS4 complete physical library and games that show multiplayer or online play:

Assassin's Creed IV
Killzone
Need for Speed
Dynasty Warriors 8
Injustice
Just Dance
NBA 2K14
NBA Live 14
FIFA 14
Madden 25
Battlefield 4
Call of Duty Ghosts
Tomb Raider

And probably some digital games too that I haven't explored yet.

So basically it DOES have multiplayer games.

It just doesn't have Halo, Gears of War, and Titanfall... games we pretty much already suffered with for EIGHT YEARS if you have/had a 360.

starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS

so Sony's doomed for not having enough people to work on games yet big enough to make all those games you listed above(and more)

Sony has proven tha you don't have to hae either a big dev gropup/money/or both to make reta games(ND alone has proven that greatly) True sony doesn't have a killer mp app like halo or gears(and I'll throw TF in as well) but it didn't stop from cathching and surpassing the 360 or the rubber Sony's laying down with the PS4

we also most remember that different console have different preferences; what might work for one doesn't have to work for the other

That's the exact thinking that stops innovation from happening.

Is it wrong that I want Sony to create a big mp franchise with the scope of cod, halo, gears, battlefield?

Something that gets major mainstream traction so many more people can come back to or join the playstation nation?

That big franchise will then inturn sell many more ps4's and get many more xbox - ps4 converts and these people then can be aware about the other games that playstation makes and they can then buy those as well.

Well then you get much more marketshare and revenue which would also allow sony to invest in more games.

So what im saying is nothing but beneficial.

I'm not asking Sony to change anything with their current studios, i'm asking them to invest in a big scope franchise to rival the halo, and mario of their competitors.

So far everything about the ps4 is right and my suggestion would just make it much much better.

Also I would shut the fuck up if Sony just got back crash bandicoot, but without money sony can't do that :( and that's why I believe what I said can change that and let Sony get back on track after 360/wii took away a ton of their marketshare.

Im sorry it seems that none of you playstation fans like playing mp games with your friends? I just have bad communication skills that's obvious but the point im trying to make is that for playstation fans like myself, it's harder to find friends who have a playstation console because while most of my friends are off playing halo and gears on xbox or my nerdy friends are off playing pc games where does that leave a ps fan like myself? And I am an american in college guess where xbox reigns supreme due to what i'm talking about. Sony needs to have that big franchise that caters to these people so they get ps4's. I personally know way more people who are waiting on xb1 than ps4 due to halo and gears, and I can't persuade them elsewise because what does Sony have to compete?

And I do realize now that size doesn't matter. So forgive me with that.

Also btw I play a ton of more sp games than mp, a ton more!!!

Sorry wasn't raging at you personally with that post, just that mindset of the industry as a whole makes me see red.

It's simple:

Sony invest on niche exclusives -> hipster reviewers give 10/10 -> Core gamers HAPPY -> Internet -> Word of mouth -> PS brand gets stronger -> Hardware sales boost -> Software sales boost ->Third parties make AAA mainstream blockbusters with exclusive content(batman, watch dogs,etc..) or full exclusive(Persona 5) -> Hardware boost->Software boost -> repeat 1.

You should make a book about how to be a successful video game company. "The Twelve Simple Steps To Be Great Like Sony."

I cannot take this article seriously. Where did the Last of Us fail at something? It was the GOTY. Infamous has already sold over a million copies. Sony is fine as far as their gaming division is concerned. Xbox will never catch ps4 in overall sales

That's exactly what STOPS innovation from happening.  Trying to make all the consoles the same and all the games the same.

Much better post than your opening so I'll address it seriously.

It's true that Sony has no real answer for Halo but it's not like it's easy to make one.  That's not something you can conjure out of thin air.  I suppose they could try to create another IP but, quite honestly, there are enough third party games out there that cover the multi-player FPS genre already.  Most people are going to spend their time with the yearly installments of CoD or Battlefield, anyway, and Destiny is going to be massive.

The only "fail", if you can call it that, was letting Titanfall go exclusive, but I doubt they had much input in that.  They weren't going to out-bid Microsoft, that's for sure.

Regardless of all that, we're only a few months into this generation (sorry, Wii U, but you know what I mean).  We haven't even seen a PS4 "current gen" E3 yet.  There really is no telling what they have up their sleeve.

The way I see it, is that Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo each have their own speciality when it comes to making games:

Sony - Singleplayer.
Microsoft - Online Multiplayer
Nintendo - Local Multiplayer

This^^

They have different target demographics.

Sony - Singleplayer - Traditional core/hardcore gamers;

Microsoft - Online multiplayer - Dudebros + 'muricans + mountain drew+ Doritos + EA style;

Nintendo - Local multiplayer - Family friendly casual experience.

Last of Us multiplayer is pretty solid and there is plenty of people playing and locally organized championships. I have now 20+ people on PSN that plays it with headsets, entered a team with other 3 players and will participate in my first championship just for the fun. Infected? Why? I recon a coop mode would be cool, fighting infected alongside your friends, that would be cool. But the normal 4 vs 4 MP is great.
