Forums - General Discussion - Stephen Colbert to take over for David Letterman on the Late Show in 2015

Announced this morning, Stephen Colbert has signed a 5 year contract with CBS to replace David Letterman on the Tonight Show, in 2015.

Wasn't expecting it, myself.  I can imagine the money's better, but Colbert had built quite a following with his person on the Colbert Report.  It's unfortunate, since this is likely the end of the Colbert Report...but good luck to him anyway!

Great for Colbert, great for CBS, devastating for Colbert Report fans :(

I just hope he will keep at least a bit of his satire in the new format.

I don't think I've ever seen Stephen Colbert out of his Colbert Report persona (which he already had when he was a correspondant on the Daily Show). It'll be interesting to see how this turns out.

There's a number of youtube videos where he's his true self.  The stage interview with Neil Degrasse Tyson was pretty natural.

I realized recently that there are a lot of people out there who don't get that Stephen Colbert is satire.

Yeah, there's many folks who completely missed that boat.

I know, the Colbert Report is awesome.  So much better than Late Night talk shows.

Stephen Colbert has basically been telling the same joke and keeping it funny for ten years. Probably good that he finds a new joke before we come to our collective senses, rise up, and cast out the blowhard pundits he's made a career of lampooning.

That's still on, right? We're still gonna do that?

yeah this really pisses me off.  i mean i guess this make colbert more "accessible" but there is no way he'll be able to really "be himself" on late night like he was on colbert.   we're trading in unique, comedy gold for more generic PC-friendly bullshit comedy.  i'm soo disappointed right now.

Can't really say it's his fault, he's just commenting on what politicians are giving him.  That our politicians are like broken records, is the more concerning issue heh.
