It is strange, but the answer was pretty much summed up in the article. Developers spreading as wide as they can to lower risks.

yeah, i know.   not that there weren't cross gen titles last gen transition but it sort of feels like there are more of them now.

the worst part, imo, is that even of the "big" upcoming games (the order 1886, quantum break, ect.) we just don't even have release dates.  i'm guessing other than a few gap fillers we aren't going to see anything notable release until the holiday except for (maybe) watch dogs,.. another cross gen title.

The only upside imo is that the lack of releases makes people try out new games they wouldn't have otherwise, like inFamous.  But I think I made the right descision not getting a PS4 yet after getting a Wii U at launch and not turning it on for months at a time.

It all depends on your situation to me buying the PS4 at launch was the right move. I've already got a backlog filling up and that does not in anway include the indie titles just retail. Still working on beating Thief,Infamous, and Rayman Legends. Thief is espicially hard because I'm doing full stealth no one can see me and I can't touch anyone so it's taking a long time. I love it though I love hardcore stealth like that it's rare to see these days.

Then I also have BF4 that I'm playing inbetween the other two as well. I just don't have the sort of time some people do to play games. I only get one really good day to play for hours and hours and that's only every other week. The rest of the time I work and then I go home and workout. After that I have an hour max to play games. That's if I skip watching any of my TV shows.

The thing is, your PS4 backlog is almost entirely playable in some form on PS3 and if they were on the PS3, they'd be overlooked by most people.  Only inFamous stands out and while some praise it (most, actually), I'm not impressed by it.  The gameplay is 100% inFamous and the graphics are good...but not what people make them out to be.  It's open world and probably the best looking open world game ever but it just doesn't do it for me.

All my (admittedly jaded) opinion, of course.

Yep this is exactly why I said it all depends on your situation. I don't have a PS3 and I sold my 360 so these games were not playable to me at all. I've never played any infamous game but I'm absolutely obsessed with super heroes and things like that Infamous has been amazing to me. It's only lacking in story line and variety side missions. Not to mention the whole reason I got a PS4 so early was because I wanted to play BF4 with 64 players CQ and that is not avaliable anywhere else except PC. Considering I work in IT I had being at an office/desk when I get home. I want to lay on my couch and it's way to hard/impossible to do that with a keyboard and mouse.

I can't remember another transition that has felt so half-hearted, so conservative, so burdened by a reluctance to place proper, major bets on new technology.

This is what it's all about. Ballooning development budgets necessitate risk mitigation, and that means more platforms, designing for the lowest common denominator, and fewer risks on unproven ideas.

The publishers wish that they only had one console to develop for. With the 8th gen, they got their wish.

I kind of don't get it. People complain when Microsoft switched from the Xbox to the Xbox 360 when they came out with a new console. Now it seems they complaining they are still making games for the system many already have.

While Zelda: Twilight Princess came out on the GameCube and the Wii.

I think other things are going on too. Developers are fearful, and it's less expensive to upgrade and old game, than the risk of making a new one. I may be a bit bias, but I live in the city in which it is hardest to get a job in the USA, but it's a hard time economically. Plus more hand held/mobile time spent doing things - not just playing games, but reading, watching on demand, etc.

Basically, I think it's a phase. None of this gen's consoles really seemed ready to launch with the games they supported. Give it time, it will (should) get better.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Tell me a funny joke!

Diminishing returns baby!

The first year of a new console is pretty much always disappointing when it comes to games. I remember using my PS2 mostly as a DVD player for the first year since there was so few games to play (I even bought a THQ game, I was that desperate!). The PS3 was plagued with the "no gamez" tag for a really long time. I don't think I need to remind anyone of how barren the first year of the Wii U was. New consoles always need time to build a worthwhile library. I used to be an early adopter but now I prefer the wait and see approach.

Disagree. Compare the launch of the Xbox One with the Xbox 360. Which had the better games? More games? Replay value? Xbox One. Then, you have Kinect 2.0. Also, Titanfall.

Sorry. Nothing weird going on. Give me a Xbox One (PlayStation gamer here) and I'll SHOW YOU how to game on it.

I don't mean... play one playthrough of SP for any given game... then a few MP matches... and be done with it.

I mean get all achievements... all dlc... all indie games. EAT THE CONSOLE UP!

That's how one should game. Otherwise, you're a casual gamer and have no right to complain.
k

Wait, so unless you're an achievement hunter, you're a casual gamer? Can't say I agree with that sentiment.

Why is it that people knitpick a person's message in order to pick faults and they FAIL TO GRASP THE ENTIRETY OF THE MESSAGE!?!

Urgh. This is vgchartz. I can't say I'm shocked.

This coming from someone who didn't even complete The Last Of Us. Lol.

Oh. Almost forgot. You don't even like the PS4 to begn with.

Sorry. Your opinion isn't weighty at all.

Would you like my opinion of the Wii U and Xbox One? Thought not.

I'd actually like your opinion on Wii U and Xbox One.  And no.  Didn't comlete the Last of Us. :(

I'm very, very annoyed by these types of articles. If the internet was as widely used as it is now you would have had the exact same bs during these:

NES->SNES
PS1->PS2
Xbox->Xbox360
PS2->PS3

And how about the GB->GBA? Or NDS->3DS.

How about waiting a year or two before getting worked up and sharing your not-so-important-nor-nearly-as-insightful-as-you-think opinions with the world.
